Book Description

August 1, 1999
For more than a decade, Greg Anderson's The Cancer Conqueror has been helping cancer patients take control of their disease and their lives. Told as a modern-day parable, the book traces one patient's journey from the fear, futility, and grief felt upon first hearing a cancer diagnosis to the calm, focused, accepting outlook of a Cancer Conqueror. The story encourages a step-by-step transformation from despair to hope, and carries the empowering message that people can choose to be fully alive-even with a cancer diagnosis. In Journeys with the Cancer Conqueror Anderson has expotentially expanded his groundbreaking book to become an even more important companion to cancer patients. Most significantly, he has added an extensive series of interactive exercises that help the reader achieve greater self-knowledge and a heightened sense of personal empowerment-critically important elements of the holistic healing process. The Cancer Conqueror has helped patients and family members through some of the most difficult times in their lives, and Journeys with the Cancer Conqueror will continue to do so for years to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Insights for all of us, March 13, 2000
This review is from: Journeys with the Cancer Conqueror: Mobilizing Mind and Spirit (Hardcover)
Unfortunatly I have had a number of my friends diagnosed with cancer over the past few years as well as friends who lost their spouses to cancer. This is particularly poingnant as they are all in the 5-30 year age range. Fortunatly I have had the oppertunity to be there and try to be of help to them their journey - fortuneatly because they have thought me so much about what is really important in life and to be grateful for the simple gifts and pleasures of the everyday. I've read quite a number of books on psychoneuro immunology including books by Bernie Seigal, Norman Cousins and Deepak Chopra. While I've been inspired by most of the other books "Journey's with the Cancer Conquorer" seems to be a clear and simple (not easy) complilation of all the other material plus it is a great workbook/thought generator that provokes one to examine their motives and actions which then leads one to reconsidor choices made out of habit or on autopilot. One comes to understand oneself and then work from a place of self-understanding. I feel this book is beneficial to everyone and a special gift to someone who is traveling the "cancer journey". Two particular insights I enjoyed: 1. Cancer is not a noun it is a verb "cancering", a process of growth. 2. Recurance is not a death sentence. It is the only book I remember dealing with recurance in a practical and realistic light.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Battle Plan, January 15, 2011
This review is from: Journeys with the Cancer Conqueror: Mobilizing Mind and Spirit (Hardcover)
An honest and effective battle plan for combatting cancer which has helped hundreds of thousands of cancer patients. Greg Anderson was given only 30 days to live after cancer had matastasized in his lungs. Greg realized that when you have cancer you do have a choice --- you can prepare to die or prepare to live. You can allow cancer to control you or you can take control.

Abigail Van Buren, better known as "Dear Abby" in her nationally-syndicated newspaper column, has presented many portions of this book in numerous columns. She says in the preface: "Reading books can change lives. And this book will change yours by revealing a secret: when you discover that you have cancer, you do have a choice."

This is not just another cancer survivor story but rather a workbook for producing a battle plan. Greg asks you to answer many questions and there are not any correct or incorrect answers. But your answers will collectively reveal you attitudes and feelings which in turn will allow you to honestly confront your mental barriers. The goal is to create peace of mind, not just to cure cancer. You can become a cancer conqueror not because you go into remission but because you choose to become a new person.

Now, I know some people will think that Greg is espousing New Age mumbo jumbo. My father was such a person and died from lung cancer 18 months after diagnosis. He did not want to fight and simply gave up. He embraced being a victim, constantly saying "when your time has come, your time has come." But, many people want to continue living yet believe their fate is in the hands of doctors.

This book provides a personal road map through the cancer maze and I am not talking about medical therapies or the benefits of various chemo-therapy treatments. This is not a medical book. This is a people book without technical and medical terms. This book should be given free to every person diagnosed with cancer. It truly is valuable.
