Not all pregnancies end with a healthy child going home from the hospital in the arms of its happy parents. There is a little recognized reality that many pregnancies end in predelivery death in utero. There are numerous reasons for such tragedies, but often the loss is unexplainable. Amy L. Abbey as author and editor, has gathered the stories of almost a dozen families, and shares how the families coped with loss and went on to have successful pregnancies.
By profession I'm a health educator, having earned my MPH at Hunter College/CUNY and my BS at Temple University (Let's go Owls!). I also am a CHES (Certified Health Education Specialist).
I'm now retired but my career focused on serving the underserved. I taught BSE classes (Amercian Cancer Society curriculum) to women of color for 2+ years, and worked for the HIV Uninsured CARE Programs for 8+ years. I continue to serve on the Nassau Suffolk HIV CARE Network. I'm also past President of the Greater New York Society for Public Health Education.
I've been speaking at pregnancy loss and pregnancy after loss groups since 2001 and worked as a member of the Bereavement Track Planning Committee for First Candle/SIDS Alliance and International Stillbirth Alliance conference in September 2005 in Washington DC. There's a lot of work to be done.
