This is a gem of a book, published shortly before the author's untimely death in January 2008. It will be a fascinating read for those who want to explore the world of their Jewish ancestors in Poland during the interwar period, as well as the world of the "Bund" the Jewish socialist party. My only regret is that Brumberg did not include a chapter about his work for more than twenty years as editor of USIA's bi-monthly journal, Problems of Communism, which enjoyed a worldwide reputation for objectivity during the Cold War.
