5.0 out of 5 stars The Classic Cookbook of Middle-American Cooking, May 12, 2009

This is the must have basic cookbook for anyone who wants the standard middle-American recipes. It has all the basics, but don't expect it to include modern health sensibilities or many ethnic dishes.

This book was like deja vous. My grandmother gave me a copy when I was a teenager, and I can remember her teaching me how to cook from this book. It really brings back great, wonderful memories. The book was in good shape, and I am certain that I will get many years of use from it. Thanks.

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic go-to cookbook, updated and still very useful., March 9, 2010

There is not a lot to say about a book that has already been established as one of the must-have classic cook books, so I will just give you my opinion of it and why I like it.

I collect cookbooks, and so many of them are just for fun and entertainment, or for meal planning and flavor inspiration. I love glossy food photos and comparing different recipes for the same dishes.

Most of my cookbooks have never actually been "used" for their recipes or cooking advice.

This book, on the other hand, is one of the few books I actually open when I am in the kitchen and have a general cooking question, and it usually delivers.

This is a great gift for a person just learning to cook, or moving into their first apartment and starting out or even a veteran cook who you know hasn't got this in their collection.
