5.0 out of 5 stars A Must read!!! LOTS of info!
I absolutely loved this book! It was chalk-full of clearly presented, mostly objective information. There wasnt preachy like some books can be... It was very objective, gave u the option of assigning ur own opinion... The only preachiness was of things that could be hazardous to your physical/mental health. The authors have a very optimistic attitude toward sex, which is...

I absolutely loved this book! It was chalk-full of clearly presented, mostly objective information. There wasnt preachy like some books can be... It was very objective, gave u the option of assigning ur own opinion... The only preachiness was of things that could be hazardous to your physical/mental health. The authors have a very optimistic attitude toward sex, which is extremely refreshing, and they basically say that if you follow safe sex guidelines and avoid people, places, and situations that might cause unsafe sex, u can lead a satisfying and healthy sex life.
This book is a must read for anyone new to the gay scene as it provides information on a wide variety of topics and makes u aware of certain scenes and practices and risks associated with them. I found the information on AIDS and HIV and also the section on STD's VERY helpful. It cleared up many questions I had and debunked all the false info.
I especially enjoyed this book as it was written in part by a psychologist, and so the information was given in a kind of psychologically logical way. Since many of the sections dealt with sexual practices, they are behaviours and the author presented them as such and goes into possible sources for these behaviours and preferences.
I enjoyed the illustrations even thought they were only pencil illustrations. They were exceptionally done and I actually got turned on by them LoL
Also the Appendix supplied me with many useful resources for other books and helpful organizations for future reference.
This book is full of helpful information and advice and, again, I highly recommend this book to anyone new to the gay scene, or even just as a reference. This book has become an invaluable reference for me, and I hope it becomes the same for all of you as well!

5.0 out of 5 stars gay sex eye opener, June 4, 2003
By
This review is from: The Joy of Gay Sex: Fully Revised and Expanded Third Edition (Hardcover)
due to the complete lack of any sex education for gay men when I was a student, owing to the fact that the system assumes all students are heterosexual and educates them as such, I had to learn about sex "on the road" so to speak - this book is a serious attempt to redress this - well done

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad read.. Very Interesting..., May 3, 2007
As a gay man I knew about most of topics covered in this book. However it's been on my "to read list" for some time. It was well written and in a way that I could understand. I agree with most if not all of the authors views. The only complaint that I have is the tone that he took on the subject of "foreskin" Telling readers to "grow up" for being pro or anti-circumcsion was not needed. Otherwise the book was really good and I would recommend it to anyone who is gay. Or to the parents of recently "outted" gay teens and young men...

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Update, May 30, 2008
Having read previous edition, I found this a good update on many subjects.

Gives good guidelines for a great safe-sex sex life. Keeping it in view

for everyone to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sexy & Informative, September 3, 2010

I have been out since I was fifteen years old and five years later I find myself finally reading abook that really brings up and clears up a lot of personal stuff for me. I recommend this book to homosexuals young and old. I consider it my new travel guide. Thank you for all the effort made by all those who made it possible for this book to be published and accepted.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not all I expected, May 25, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Based on the title, i expected more specific sexual discussion, and what was here was fine, but along with that were a lot of references to social aspects of gay life and relationships, which, technically is not covered under "gay sex"

3.0 out of 5 stars Some strange info here, read the Gay Kama Sutra instead, February 8, 2012
By
Dan (New Jersey) - See all my reviews
This book is very organized, like a dictionary of gay terms, and some of the terms are very strange. This isn't really about enjoying gay sex. For a kindle book about enjoying sex, I suggest The Gay Kama Sutra: A Guide for Newly Out Gays Who Need Some Sex Info

3.0 out of 5 stars updated, but still out of touch, June 20, 2003
By
D. S. Bimbi (NYC, NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Joy of Gay Sex: Fully Revised and Expanded Third Edition (Hardcover)
While it is admirable that the authors have updated this resource to reflect the changes in gay culture since the last edition, there are still many "holdovers" of out of date information and attitudes. Most pointedly the entry on "hustling" is offensive, condescending and stigmatizing. The authors have clearly not read any of the relevant social science research that has been published in the last 20 years on what the authors deride as the politically correct term "male sex work." It is also problematic that a book that claims to be a reference book cites no sources whatsoever nor includes a list of reference at the end. Without references this book is composed of nothing more than the opinion of the authors. However, for the uninformed this text is a very good first source, just don't take anything in it as "the last word."

2.0 out of 5 stars So, so..., May 24, 2004

This review is from: The Joy of Gay Sex: Fully Revised and Expanded Third Edition (Hardcover)
This book offers some nice information, but to subculture, sex-centered gays. I was really disappointed at some topics such as bisexuality and sex with animals!!! Thats not what I expect in my gay sex. So clearly, buy this book ONLY if your life revolves around sex. I now regret I bought this book.
