Explains how joy affects our lives and improves it, July 8, 2000
This review is from: Joy and Healing (Paperback)
Torkom Saraydarian invites us to experience true joy in this inspiring book. It is a book filled with wisdom, spiritual in- sight and an understanding of human life that the author shares with his readers.
As a book on healing, it is not what one might at first expect, but rather reveals heretofore largely unrecognized truths about love and joy and how we can use their tremendous healing energies in our relationships with others.
That "Joy is a special wisdom" is what the author tells us. And further teaches that, "Joy is a state of beingness" and notes that, "It is very interesting that the thorns of life cannot survive in an atmosphere of real joy."
Torkom Saraydarian explains how joy affects our life and the lives of others. He gives the reader "Exercises on Joy" - actually showing the reader 'how' to experience joy.
Several examples are given of how the joy of others affected the author, especially, the wonderful example of joy his own father's life was, even in times of great peril and treachery. He further relates how his various Teachers expressed joy in their lives.
The author defines the difference between joy and happiness, how to more deeply understand love and joy and how to give both to family, friends and all those whom your life touches. He teaches the difference between pleasing a person's personality and doing what is truly best for them in the light of the soul. This book is a deeply significant spiritual guide to help us to heal others and ourselves.
The author predicts that ... "one day joy will be used to wipe out the ills of humanity." He says, "The problems of the world can be solved by the energy of love and joy. Bring joy and love into the meetings at the United Nations, and the problems of the world will lose their control and gradually melt away."
Torkom Saraydarian's own joy 'spills over' in this precious book. It is a treasure among his works. It is inspiring, uplifting and enlightening. The reader feels 'as if' the author wrote it in great joy and love for his fellow man; thus, it be- comes a 'gift of love and joy' to all who read and study it.

This book is fantastic, October 24, 1999

This review is from: Joy and Healing (Paperback)
About 11 years ago when I first read Joy & Healing, I remember being afraid that I could not be a joyful person. I had great difficulty remembering seeds of joy and recalling my childhood joys. I was aware of happiness, but could not locate the joy within me. Now, it is readily accessible to me and for this I am very grateful. I try to make use of it in all my relationships and in my dark moments. Daily, I contact joy and try to share it with others. I now see more ways of being joyful, of expressing it, and experiencing it. It can be quiet and solemn as well as noisy and jubilant.
Through the exercises in this book, moments of great joy from my past have been unlocked. I can see how the wee mixed with other things and had gotten crystallized. This one activity was so beneficial, in and of itself.
The seed thoughts in the lessons have been very interesting. They evoked esoteric, as well as tangible, learning about joy and its properties.
I put into my activities more now than ever before and have decreased the element of "everything is wonderful" which is a kind of false joy. Everything isn't wonderful. Life is challenging and there are plenty of times which I don't feel like even being joyful. But, I realize now that I can change my outlook , be more helpful to others, be an agent for change in my own family and home by coming in contact with things that evoke joy from within me. Things don't have to be wonderful to do that; that can happen in spite of any difficulty. It's not about being happy, but about finding those moments in which I feel close to God, close to Beauty, close to the best within me. That for me is joy.
I think that everyone who wants to increase their productivity and energy, the success of their relationships, and their enthusiasm for life should read this book. It is fantastic.
