Amazon.com Review

Business writer and consultant Todd Leigh Mayo's The Joy of Self Employment: Entrepreneurship and Education in a Changing World is designed to show readers how satisfying it can be to work for oneself and to help those interested in giving it a try. Written in an unabashedly proselytizing style, it is divided into four sections. The first addresses the changes in today's workplace that encourage such endeavors. The second focuses on the role of education in the mastery of relevant skills and information. The third discusses actual creation of a new enterprise. And the fourth describes dozens of self-employed successes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Eye Opening and Practical Read, November 8, 2010

This review is from: The Joy of Self Employment: Entrepreneurship and Education in a Changing World (Hardcover)
This book has inspired me to go about all of my aspirations as an aspiring composer, lyricist, songwriter, author, and poet while still in college. Much of what the author says about education in the public school system being so irrelevant to the interest of what people really want to know and the fact that we are trying to hang onto the same old "safe and secure" job positions is ever changing as is the world of work. In school, too much of a teacher's time (especially at the university) is spent teaching standards for big tests instead of testing the student's true knowledge and skills attained. Much to the contrary, life is what you put in and not always about what the bossman gives you. Life is about aspirations and following through with them, even when society is dictating the negative. Not doing for yourself anymore is not an option. This is what the book teaches you.
I am using this book to inspire my ventures into self-employment after college graduation. I would certainly recommend this book to those who are interested in the shocking truth about the workplace.
