5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Phenominal............
As if we didn't know Ms. Murray's level of talent with her first novel, Temptation...........JOY absolutely grabs you from page one, as it commands your attention front and center stage.

3.0 out of 5 stars left me wondering....
this book was not a good sophmore attempt by Ms. Murray. my only issue was that it seemed predictable in parts, and did not go into enough depth in others.

i understood Anya's faith and her desire to be all that God wanted her to be...so then why did she not see through her shallow, boring, and low-life fiance before the end of the novel???

and what was considered to...

As if we didn't know Ms. Murray's level of talent with her first novel, Temptation...........JOY absolutely grabs you from page one, as it commands your attention front and center stage.

Filled with such emotion and depth, JOY, is a story about Anya Mitchell and Braxton Vance, a young couple engaged to be married and walking by faith in God's hands. Soon, their faith is put to the test by something so imaginable, it leaves the reader wondering exactly what they would do given the same set of circumstances.

As the story unfolds, both Anya and Braxton begin to see that perhaps they each have varying degrees of faith and belief in what's right versus what's best and each must make some decisions that will ultimately affect the rest of their lives.

Breathtakingly suspenseful, bold yet heartfelt, Ms. Murray brings forth a story and characters so well developed and full of life, you'll always remember you've just read a work of art!

This one's a drama filled page turner at it's best.............

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCEPTIONAL!!!!, November 7, 2001
This review is from: Joy (Hardcover)
If you read Temptation by Ms Murray, then you already know how well she can incorporate a message of christianity into fiction and not be preachy.

In Joy, you will not be disappointed. From page one, you are captiviated by the plights, the trials and tribulations of Anya and Braxton. A Christian couple engaged to be married, but it appears they may be unequally yoked and that could affect their relationship.

Throw in a little mystery (stalker) and a few distractions (handsome co-worker), some family issues (Madear and Sasha) and you have a great novel that will keep you turning the pages, neglecting everything else you need to do.

Scriptures sprinkled throughout the book that Anya relied on, can help anyone overcome obstacles they find in their way during their walk with God.

This book I highly recommend.

and what was considered to add suspense to the plot to me came off as poorly written. there may be a few women out there who would have made the same decision that Anya did if put in that situation but i personally don't think so!

the author attempted to write a 'feel-good about God' book but i throughly disliked how naive she made the main character seem.
her first novel 'Temptation' was much better.

hopefully her third offering will be able to hold my attention

5.0 out of 5 stars I Get Joy When I Think About This JOY!, November 21, 2001

This review is from: Joy (Hardcover)
Victoria Christopher Murray has done it again! JOY, her second serving of "spiritual food for the hungry soul" has secured her spot as not only a top Christian novelist but as a mainstream author as well. Her writing style is smooth, believable, and engaging from start to finish.

Anya Mitchell and Braxton Vance's relationship is flawed from the beginning, but--between the two of them--their love for each other and the Lord seems resilient enough to carry them through. However, during the course of their story, circumstances that could break even the strongest of Christians come their way. These fiery trials test their faith in God and each other. Anya fights to hold on to her fiance, her business, her integrity and, sometimes, even her sanity while striving to be an example to her newly divorced cousin Sasha who has only one use for men and no use for God.

JOY will have you swiftly turning the pages to discover the outcome of Anya's latest battle. You will savor every morsel of this satisfying story that is filled with drama, intrigue, and emotions that are intense and realistic. En-JOY!

Victoria has done it again! This is a phenominal book, written in true exellence!!!!! Once again,as with Temptation, I was up until the wee hours of the night unable to put this book down. This book tested my faith and encouraged my faith! This book reminds us that we never know how faithful we are until we have to be faithful. This book brings scripture to life and shows us, God can use any situation or circumstance for His Glory!

This was story had a good storyline however it was to detailed in some areas and not enough where it should have been. Once you have made your point in the book its time to end it. The ending was so predictable. Tempation was a much better book.

Have you found yourself wanting to branch out and read a Christian Fiction book. Have you fought this urge because you think the author is going to preach a sermon to you the whole time? If you've answered "Yes" to both of those questions then I have the book for you.

"Joy" by Victoria Christopher Murray is the book you should pick up because it is great on so many levels. This book shows you that strong unyielding faith will get you through any and everything thing. This will also teaches us lessons about love and hate, trust and betrayal, and forgiveness.

Ms. Murray takes us into the life of Anya Mitchell. Anya is successful, intelligent, strong woman who knows that God has great things in story for her no matter what other people may think. Anya has her own company that is making big bucks for her, she has found the man of her dreams and it doesn't hurt that he's also a Christian and she has her family right by her side. Anya founds herself constantly being tested from her fiancé's pressures about getting married, to her not so Christian cousin moving in with her to dissatisfied employees. As you go through Anya's life and daily situations you are reminded in a subtle manner of how God wants us as Christians to live our life and that prayer is the answer to all things.

Don't let the fact that you are going to read about faith and prayer deter you from this book because it is a great read. Ms. Murray developed her characters in a way that will have you thinking "I know someone like that," some of her characters will make you mad and some will have you standing in their corner rooting them on. The suspenseful plot in the story isn't all that bad either. I was on pins and needles trying to figure out who the attacker was (if you only knew how many times I had to stop myself from flipping to the back of the book to find out who it was...and let me tell you know you'll never guess).

Now there were some cases in the book where I was like "come on now, no one really thinks like that" and there were some times when Anya was just too good to be true but I can assure you those times are few and far between.

I haven't read Temptation yet but I can assure you it's on my list of books to read.

I really enjoyed this novel. I liked how Mrs. Murray touched on the issue of abortion and how God will forgive someone if they chose that in the past. I also like how Anya was a strong character and stayed firm in her faith through prayer and scriptures despite all of the problems she was facing.
