When Joy Williams sings, "I wouldn't try and kid you / I'm just an ordinary girl" on "It's All Good" from her self-titled debut release, she captures the essence of what makes this first effort so pleasant. Unlike some of her teenage peers (Stacie Orrico, Rachael Lampa, Paige), Williams centers the music on her strong and sweet vocals. She trusts her talent in the same way that the massively successful Jaci Velasquez does, confidently forgoing the latest techno-dance samplings or choreographed moves. Her record is a fresh mixture of ballads, upbeat pop numbers, and moving testimonials. "Touch of Faith" is perhaps the finest track, with ample room for Williams to tastefully show off her talent. The closing "Better Than I" and "Do They See Jesus in Me" are ballads that demonstrate this Californian is blessed with a mature voice well beyond her years. --Michael Lyttle

This is an excellent CD! Contemporary Christian music fans will love this! It is a great mix of slow songs and fast songs, with a clear message of how great God is.

A Kid's Review

This Joy Williams CD is one that I will listen to over and over, I love the beat to the songs and they are all so motivating and inspirational, they all really want me to live my life the way Joy does. If I didn't have this CD I would probably never feel the way I feel now (about life). "Up" always makes me want to get up and do something with myself, like, explore God, the world, evangelize, or witness. That's pretty much how the whole CD makes me feel. I want people to see Jesus in me the way Joy makes it so obvious. Her music has this joy, and it's so contagious. Believe me, if you buy this CD, you won't regret it. Joy Williams will NOT let you down! : )

Sick of unimaginative, sleazy, semi-authentic synthpop? Tired of overprocessed vocals with no hint of genuine talent? Look no further: Joy Williams's eponymous debut album is your panacea.

A powerful, charismatic vocalist, Williams manages to fuse pop, rock, R&B, and gospel elements together to create a surprisingly cohesive CD. "It's All Good" (the album's premier track) and "Serious" feature definitive hip-hop beats and R&B-flavored vocals. The infectious "Up" and upbeat "Second Nature" are buffed to shiny, exuberant pop perfection. "Touch of Faith," the album's finest track, combines Williams's yearning vocals with inventive sonic beats to create an unforgettably powerful praise & worship song.

Williams's vocal talents, though, really shine in a selection of understated ballads. Featured on the JESUS soundtrack, her hushed but beautiful "I Believe in You" is a direct statement of undying faith in God. In the ethereal "Home," Williams implores God, "Hold me, mold me." "Better Than I" and "Do They See Jesus in Me" offer stately and impressive displays of Williams's quiet confidence in her abilities.

Debut albums rarely seem so fully-formed or confident. And Williams is the perfect antidote to the Britney blues.
