Celbrate the Glory of the Season,
By A Customer
This review is from: Joy to the World (Audio CD)
This CD is aptly named. There is a real feeling of joy throughout all the songs. It has big, rich sound that really conveys the glory of the season. Although this is listed as a Mormon Tabernacle Choir CD, the Philadelphia Brass Ensemble and Percussion and Alexander Schreiner at the organ are just as responsible for the soaring quality of the music. The instrumental music is more prominent on this CD than it is on most Mormon Tabernacle Choir CDs. I wouldn't list this as among my all time favorite Christmas CDs, but if you, like me, think it's important to pause and remember the reason for the season, you will find all your favorite sacred Christmas selections here.

I've been looking for this!
My friends dad, our neighbor worked at a record production company when I was back in Elementary school. He gave us a copy of this album one year in December. We really didn't have high hopes of liking the album. he was Mormon and w/the title being what it is, my mom said ohh I get it (nothing against mormons). Years later we were still listening every Holiday season. 20 + years later Mom and I both agreed, of all the Christmas music and albums we have ever heard, this is the best. The instruments and chorus are very powerful. I bought 1 other Mormon Tabernackle Christmas album because I couldn't find this one, it didn't compare.

The brass and the organ frequently overpower the choir. If this were well mixed it would be a wonderful Christmas classic. Keep the volume control close, again poor mix.

Silent Night is the most beatiful I have ever heard. I am buying this CD for several friends for Christmas. They have heard my copy and wish they had a copy.

A MUST for anyone who loves a heartfelt Christmas album!,

I grew up listening and singing to this tape. Now that I can get it on CD, I know that I can keep up the tradition of "Singing in the car." It is a true masterpiece to Christian-label Christmas music!

A Timeless Christmas Classic,
By
This review is from: Joy to the World (Audio CD)
I'm a lover of traditional Christmas music and I've acquired about 20 CDs of it. There's nothing my family likes better in December than putting on some good Christmas music and getting in the mood for the season, hearing once again the old favorites you've known since childhood. Of all the Christmas music CDs I've tried, I have two desert-island favorites, the two I always reach for first. This is one of them. I think it's one of the greatest recordings of traditional Christmas music ever made. The arrangements (by Arthur Harris) are joyous, beautiful, and soul-stirring; the performances are heartfelt and magnificent. If you can listen to this CD and not feel filled by the Christmas spirit, you must be (a) named Ebeneezer Scrooge, or (b) deaf. This one is a timeless Christmas classic, not to be missed. Warmest recommendation.

Absolutely Heavenly Music!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Joy to the World (Audio CD)
I bought the tape of "Joy to the World" by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir about ten years ago, and had played it so often that the tape began to sound strange in spots. I never could find another tape or the CD to replace my first one. I was so pleased to find that Amazon.com had it, that I bought two CD's - one for me and one for our youngest daughter, who also loves this album and could not find it in the stores. I'm now back to buy the same CD for my parents. We have another Christmas album by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, but it cannot compare to the beauty of the songs in this album. The music on this album is very beautiful, especially "The First Noel" and "Silent Night." This particular album is one of my favorite Christmas albums of all.

Not exactly what I expected,

I was a bit disappointed with this CD. I had thought this CD would be easy to sing along with, but because the orchestra was so loud it made it difficult. I think the sound of the choir should be primarily heard, with a little soft background instrumentals. The orchestra sort of drowns out the voices. I had hoped my kids could learn some of these Christmas carols on this CD, but it's really hard to hear the words that are sung. I wish the choir would enunciate the words more clearly. Lastly, I think several of the songs are a bit too fast (like Joy to the World). I enjoy Christmas music that is sung at a more relaxed pace, so I found it hard to relax while listening to this CD. (The loud orchestra makes it even harder to relax). Silent Night was the only relaxing song on here.
