From Joyce Chen’s Black and White Collection, the bowls are made of durable stoneware. Their thoughtful design even provides enough depth to prevent red curry splatters. Each bowl also has two parallel grooves on the rim for cradling chopsticks when not in use. The wide ceramic spoons scoop plump wontons and dumplings with ease, while chopsticks are great for spearing morsels of greasy sweet and sour chicken or untangling a mouthful of yakisoba noodles. My Joyce Chen bowls arrived perfectly packed and in excellent shape. The individual boxes themselves were sturdy and have extra cushioning inside, spoon and chopsticks were wrapped separately. My son is addicted to Ramen Noodles and serving them in these bowls takes it up a notch. I love the chopsticks that come with the set. They have grooves at the tip that serve to hold slippery noodle better than anything I have ever seen. These noodle bowls make a 15 cent meal look so special and I wouldn't hesitate to order more as gifts.

After the previous poor reviews and shipping problems Amazon had encountered with this item you would have thought they would have been more cautious with the packaging. Unfortunately, they weren't. If you purchase - double your order - that way you have a chance of getting about half that aren't broken and you can return the broken items like I ended up doing. Some were shattered, some had hairline cracks so inspect them very carefully upon receipt. Amazon doesn't provide a phone number for complaints. Good Luck!

I adore the shape of these bowls, but find them to be incredibly delicate; one has already cracked at the hole and a spoon has broken beyond mending. They also conduct heat a bit too well for eating utensils; perhaps a more durable material for the next set?
