In it you can steam vegetables, cook stew, make soup, slow cook meat, and bake casseroles. Foods prepared in clay pots are not only delicious but healthy. Essential nutrients and vitamins are retained through the enclosed moist cooking environment. Today, Joyce Chen Products come from all over the Pacific Rim to bring the best of Asia to you. Joyce Chen opened her first restaurant in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1958. The restaurant flourished, and in 1973 a larger Cambridge restaurant was opened. Chen also began writing Chinese cookbooks and in the 1970s began hosting a cooking show on public television. She found that the selection and quality of Chinese cookware in America didn't live up to her high standards¿ so she developed her own.

This is a great all-purpose pot to have for baking beans, obviously, but also for slow oven baked dishes like ragouts, choucroute garnis, cassoulets and is the classic vessel for nabes, those layered one-pot Japanese meals. It makes a great soup tureen as it holds heat very well and an wonderful off-beat use for it is as a leprechaun's pot to hold the peanut butter-filled butterscotch-coated Ritz cracker cookie "gold coins" that I make for St. Patrick's Day.

I bought this pot about 3 years ago - it looks just as good now as it did when I bought it. It's really well made and the best stone pot I've found for this price. Very hardy, too - stands the test of time!

I purchased this Joyce Chen J90-0704 6-Quart Stoneware Chinese Cooking Pot and used it for cooking rice. After a few times using it already, suddenly made a loud noise on the hot stove and cracked open on the bottom draining all the water on the hot cooking surface. Big mess.

I would love it if it would last...
