5.0 out of 5 stars A necessity for anyone who makes pasta!
Being an Italian food lover, I make pasta a lot. Using the Stainless Steel Strainer (also known as a "spider") eliminates the need for a colander if you are putting your pasta in a sauce. As soon as the pasta is done just scoop it out, let it drain and put it into your sauce pan. It works like a charm!

1.0 out of 5 stars Stainless Steel Strainer
I bought two of these and sent them back. They each had exposed twisted metal wires near the top edge that would make it very hard to clean, and were also just looking to cut a finger or two. Joyce Chen Stainless Steel Strainer, 7 Inch.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Number One Deep Frying Essential, May 25, 2006

There seems to be an emphasis on mesh strainers in this country, and thats all I seem to find in the grocery stores. Perhaps thats why Joyce Chen created this product - deep frying is alot easier without a mesh because mesh strainers do not allow the hot oil to drain fast enough or completely. Then when this happens you end up with alot of oil soaked fried onion rings, calamari or pakoras - whatever it is. This strainer is a must have for proper deep frying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kitchen Must Have!, July 22, 2006

I bought this a few weeks ago and it just sort of sat there in my wok on my counter (I have no cabinet space). The other day I just grabbed it for an emergency removal and it is great! I don't know how I lived without it. It is just the perfect shape and size for so many things.

Pleasantly surprised at the quality of this item, especially for the price. Very well made and sturdy. Was leary about the bamboo handle, but it has held up well to the high cooking temperatures.

5.0 out of 5 stars spider, February 20, 2006
This review is from: Joyce Chen Stainless Steel Strainer, 7 Inch (Kitchen)
I have been wanting one of these spiders for a long time but could not find one locally, so I got on Amazon and found exactly what I was looking for. I use it for a lot of different things that need straining. Deep frying, boiling, even cheese making. It gets a lot of use in my kitchen.

Joyce Chen 7" Stainless Steel Strainer
This "spider" is just the right size for virtually any straining job. The metal is high quality, performs well and has not shown signs of rust. The handle is wooden which means that it doesn't conduct heat well, making it safe to handle. I thought that the wooden handle would come loose from the metal, but it is well attached.

My only problem with this is cleaning: the wood doesn't fare well in the dish washer so I hand wash it. Also, food can get lodged between the metal and wood and can need special attention.

However, all in all this item works great, certainly better than the all-metal spiders which tend to be made of inferior materials. I'm glad I got this one.

I've wanted this item for several years and finally bought it. I LOVE it! Great quality! I found SO many uses for it that I wish I had bought it sooner. It is large, so I think I'm going to order the 5" strainer for use in smaller pots.
