5.0 out of 5 stars I loved it!
I rented this video first, but unlike the other reviewer, I loved it. I have never done any weight-training before, because I thought it was too hard and too boring. In the first two weeks after doing the video three times a week, I lost three pounds. I found the video to be very inspiring, easy to follow and made me look forward to the workouts. 2.0 out of 5 stars Lack of instructions
I rented this DVD before making the decision to buy. I won't be buying it. I've used her books in the past, with success, but only b/c of those books was I able to follow along with the DVD. She doesn't provide any exercise explaination, or form guidance. Not a good work out for beginners, I'm an intermediate level and I still didn't think it was great. For the bra...

This review is from: Joyce Vedral: Just Bra-Roll - Boobs and Just Butt Workout (DVD)

She recommends that you watch any exercise video before you start working out, which is a really good idea, and you should do anyway. I recommend this video to beginners through advanced. My husband, who has weight-trained since high school, says this is an excellent video with challenging workouts for both men and women.

She doesn't provide any exercise explaination, or form guidance. Not a good work out for beginners, I'm an intermediate level and I still didn't think it was great. For the bra fat it's mostly back exercises, and you need at least 3 sets of weights, for her super sets, which is not explained ahead of time. The butt workout doesn't require any weights. I'm only giving it two stars, I think there are better workouts out there.

4.0 out of 5 stars Targets troubled areas, strengthens back, chest and lower body, October 30, 2011
This review is from: Joyce Vedral: Just Bra-Roll - Boobs and Just Butt Workout (DVD)
This is a no-nonsense workout that either works your upper body back and pectorals (chest) or your lower body glutes and thigh area.

You do need a set of three dumbbells for the best results (DVD claims it is optional, but really, for good results and doing supersets, you will need a set of three.) I happen to think Altus set is excellent and the 3-5-8 are what most women need, though if you are a beginner, a 2 lb pair is also nice to have. You also can benefit from a yoga mat and a simple weight bench, though a chair or even a bed will do. Supposedly, Joyce's workouts are designed for minimal equipment, and she often demos working out on a sturdy chair. But you can pick up a weight bench for not much, used or at a sports store, and I recommend that you do.

The DVD is split into doing the upper or lower workouts. You can split days (upper one day, lower the next) or just do whatever suits you. The lower body can be worked every day if you switch up your workouts. The workouts are able to be done in supersets-pyramids with ascending and descending weights. This is the most challenging. You do not have to do the entire set up and down. You can stop at the top of three weights, do one weight, or change it up until you become accustomed to the workout and then as you get stronger, you can add the challenge. Hence, this DVD, though simple, is able to be customized and used in various ways.

The lower body has some floor work (hence the mat) and also some chair or bench work (to work the quads, for example.)

This entire workout, with a small bench, mat and set of dumbbells can be done in a small apartment or bedroom (with a computer or dvd player/monitor or tv) and in fact, I do mine in my bedroom for convenience.

The star is knocked off for two reasons; I don't think Joyce always explains good form, which is vital to any weighted workout. She also has that accent which many people outside the Northeast find off-putting. Yes, it's a New-Jork accent but if she drawled like Paula Deen, we wouldn't complain. Some people find it irritating. And the sets are minimal--no beautiful yoga studio with background of the Pacific surf. And Dr. Vedral is no spring chicken; she's over sixty and for younger women, even though she's a role model for lifetime fitness, she is not the role model the young often wish to see, compared to a twenty year old fitness model. It's a matter of taste.

I find these workouts efficient and effective and I love them. I recommend them to anyone who wants no-nonsense, effective, minimal equipment and space requirements. In short, they work.
