For those of us who love the retro games, this is definitely worth a try. The game feels a lot like Galaga, from the way the alien ships move in circles entering the screen, to the way your ship fires. However, the alien ships move FAST, even in early levels. You can only move right and left, and if you are using a cell phone, it can be difficult to move the way you want if your fingers hit both buttons at once. If you get used to the speed of the alien ships, the game rewards you with....more levels.

There is no capture of your ship to upgrade the lasers. There is no extra life after so many points. There is no story line to reward you with an ending at each level or the game. In fact, I'm not sure there is an end to the game. The point of it seems to be just play and play.

If the aliens were not so fast, the game would be an overall 4 stars. Well designed, not exactly original, and no upgrades like the original. However, since the alien ships move so quickly, it makes for an over-challenging game that many new players may find distressing.
*****Update- I have been informed by another purchaser that there is a bonus life at 20,000 points. I never got that far (even after the past few days of playing, but that certainly doesn't mean it doesn't exist. However, there is no info from the game about a bonus life at 20,000 points and there is also no info about whether or not this is every 20,000 points or just a one-time event. (See the comment to this review for direct info. :) )
So, if you were going to get this until you saw there was no bonus life, that should not stop you. If you were going to avoid buying this game because it is too hard, does not have enough instructions, there is no storyline, or the game is too hard to play on a cell phone, then it is probably best that you do not purchase it. Those points are still true. (Unless the developer updates the game)

This game is extremely hard. There's no way to level up or gain extra lives. You will die so quickly that it'll piss you off and you'll uninstall it out of pure frustration. I recommend checking out a different game instead.

and ridiculously slow ship make this game almost unplayable. I like everything about this game except the speed ratio. The original Galaxian was not half as bad. These guys don"t GET fast, they START fast, and just gets worse with the laser guys.

Good concept and gameplay. However, there are some major flaws that prevent a good review. Fix them and I'll fix my review.

- slow down the enemy, but keep the graphics smooth. I feel like I'm on level 20 to start with.

- have an option for more lives by score or bonus shoots.

-Having your guy move up the screen... Bad idea. Best to drop that.

- out of preference, have no buttons option, just right or left side of screen tap.

- bonus levels? There may have been one, but it flashed before my eyes. Labels as you go past levels?

I think this game has potential to be REALLY good. Just make some design changes...

In the game description they call it "frenzied action" and it certainly is that. But the frenzied action is all one-sided. The alien ship can swoop and dip and dart around, but your ship is restricted to just a back and forth motion at the bottom of the screen.

And unlike the smooth, agile movements of the aliens, the response of your avenger ship is sluggish at best and nonexistent at worst. The fire power is also miss-matched. The aliens have rockets that arc and even come up underneath you, but the avenger's rockets only shoot straight ahead (no burst) and the rate of fire is very low when compared to the alien's fire power.

But the game isn't all bad. The graphics are great and the sound effects are cool. I especially like how the alien ships look like a Chinese dragon when they fly in formation.

So if the programmers could speed up the movements and fire power of the avengers, this would be an awesome game.

... it's not like either one of them enough to call it a clone. IN fact, it definitely feels like parts of this game are entirely missing-- and those parts are not minor. Auto-fire in a shoot-em-up that you cannot turn off? Really? Slow movement and sluggish controls while the "aliens" are fast and furious? Really? Level one being insanely difficult? Really? NO real sense of "progress" through the game at all in this modern era... just level after level after level-- oh wait... death after death after death is more like it? Really? I grabbed this as the FAOTD (and know the dev is supposed to get paid anyway, good... maybe they will work on this game some more with the income); I do hope that the devs will finish this game and listen to the feedback myself and others are providing and if they do clean this mess of a game up.. I'll be happy to revise my review and rating accordingly. But in short, this is a good idea that is nowhere near ready for prime time. It needs actual play testing and actual thought put into the core game mechanics. It's not like there aren't enough examples in this world of great shoot-em-ups so it makes NO SENSE to me how the devs could get it SO wrong! This is why I rated it one star. There is NO EXCUSE for this in today's day and age. The game looks and feels rushed and I'm sorry but I cannot just pretend that half-butt efforts are fine and dandy when it's a paid app. No way. I demand quality!
