I just have to say that this feels like an arcade style game to me. First of all, you're given 4 lives, counting from zero. Second of all, you have to collect all the stars, much like in Pac-Man where you collect all the Pac-dots. And third of all, you have to avoid the monsters like beck until they turn into smiley faces and you can run into them and "defeat" them. To me, it seems like all we're missing is the fruit.

But seriously, I do have to commend the developers for one really cool thing. After doing brief research on their other apps, I've discovered that none of their applications, including this one, have any permissions whatsoever. I even found a lite version of their Draky game, and it doesn't have any either! Usually, you'll get at least one permission for a free version for things like ads or a prompt to buy the full version. Nope. None whatsoever.

So, back to the game. The basic concept is this: You collect stars, you avoid the monsters, and you jump a lot. Touch the monsters once and you die. Touch the monsters 4 times and it's game over. you After that, you start over from the beginning. The controls are difficult to deal with, but if you have the patience to get past that, you'll have a good time-killer on your hands. There's also the hall of fame, which shows high scores from other players (I'd assume developers and/or beta testers since there is nothing for online stuff). It's also a good incentive to beat those scores and get your name up there. The only thing, though, is that it's repetitive, so as fun as it initially is, it could also get boring rather quickly, depending on your tolerance level.

So, here's my rating of this game. The game itself gets a 3/5.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok game - No Intrusive Permissions! July 24, 2013

The game play is actually a bit clunky. You are trying to jump from step to step, collecting stars along the way. It is cute, the graphics are a bit bland, but playable. However, the same cannot be said about the controls. You need to move VERY quickly in some cases - even in early levels. However, the buttons do not always respond quickly enough or else the wrong button is pressed since they are close together (especially the right/left move buttons - developers, these would be better off separated, maybe on either sides of the screen?) It took my playing the game three times before I was able to manage to move to the next playing area. I'm used to playing games where, if you jump on something, then you eliminate it (monsters in Doodle Jump, turtles and other vermin in Mario Bros., etc). However, in this game, you die if you try to jump on things. So, I had to do the opposite of what I thought I should do. This caused me to lose a game. Even on the 8.9 Fire, the controls seemed a bit hard to use. Playing this on a phone may be near impossible because the buttons would need to be so small.

On the bright side, there are no intrusive permissions listed, as verified by the (rather unusual note on Amazon lately) message that this is for All Ages. I did not see any way to make any in-app purchases so it is safe for the kids to play.

Overall, I am not very impressed with the game play, but will likely keep it since it is cute and I don't have to worry about the kids playing it.

The free paid app of the day for July 25, 2013 from the Amazon App Store is Star Jim from Joyco Games.

My review today was going to be somewhat bright but is now rather dim. So I will start from the beginning of the story how this went from being about a 3 star game in my mind to an actual one star rating that I am now giving it here on the Amazon review page.

I started playing the game and I thought there were only 6 levels at first. This seemed like it was going to be a very very short game. So I figured I would give it about 3 stars since it felt like a preview or lite version of a slightly below average platform type game.

But then I got passed the first 6 levels and more levels then appeared at that time. Unfortunately, this is where the game dips to a 1 star rating in my opinion. That is because I checked the game app description on Amazon and there is over 100 levels. There is unfortunately no way to save your progress and no continue game feature after you lose all your lives. So to play any of these levels, you have to restart at Level 1 each time.

To be fair here you can pause the game, but if you run out of battery life or shut down the device, you lose your progress in the game.

Because of the failure of the app maker to include some level selection options or continue game options, and because the app maker called this game "amazing" which this game does not live up to in my opinion, I have to unfortunately give this a 1 star out of 5 star rating since this is a very huge oversight by the app maker to mention the inclusion of over 100 levels with no way to get to play the higher levels without starting at level one each time.

When I looked at this FAOTD it only had 3 reviews- two fake-looking 5 stars & one 1-star which only commented on the first review looking fake.

Since it had ZERO permissions I have it a shot.

Controlling my first two games was cumbersome so I looked at options for control configuration. I switched the control pad to left, which put the jump button on my right. That works much better for me. Now controls are smooth & play is fun.
As another reviewer mentioned, the game style is reminiscent of 80's games where you can knock down assailants if you land on top, but that's not the case with this game. There are the things you avoid- helicopters, flying saucers, aliens, etc, and the things you're trying to grab- the stars, circles with letters in them (like "P" for pause, presumably, which makes the assailants temporarily vulnerable) etc.
I don't know if there's a tutorial because I didn't look for one, but after two games I understood it well enough to enjoy it and complete levels.
I don't know yet how much replay value it'll have for me, but it's small, non-invasive, and simple fun. I definitely recommend it for the free app of the day. If it's the kind of game you tend to enjoy, I'd say it's worth its regular price as well.
