Editorial Reviews

Review

"Immediately accessible and usable in any classroom, this incredible compendium of teaching strategies is proof that good teaching benefits all students and that we don't need to isolate students with different learning styles or challenges. Udvari-Solner and Kluth have made a wonderful contribution to better teaching for all children." (Mara Sapon-Shevin, Professor of Inclusive Education 2007-02-15)

"Finally, a book that describes practical strategies for differentiated, multilevel instruction that includes the full range of children who exist in today's classrooms. Creates inclusive, democratic communities of learners where students with wide ranges of abilities—from those considered gifted to those with severe cognitive disabilities—may learn together at their own level. A very important and practical text that will be appreciated by teachers, administrators, and parents alike." (J. Michael Peterson, Professor 2007-04-20)

“Here is a blend of classroom theory with applied facts, using classroom-tested examples and clear guidelines to help teachers create and assess the results of an active, collaborative learning environment.” (The Bookwatch, April 2008 2008-05-28)

Joyful Learning is a dream come true for any busy teacher! With quick ideas that are simple to implement, any teacher can utilize this book in lesson planning and implementation. As an educator, these strategies are easy to learn and implement whether you are a high school P.E. teacher, a kindergarten teacher, or a 5th grade science teacher. When I want to motivate and engage my students, I let them choose one of the strategies and they use it to deepen their understanding, work collaboratively, and build community within my classroom. They love it! In fact, since these strategies differentiate for all learners, the entire school will intergrate them into practice next school year from Pre-K to 8th Grade!

I just received this book at the "Inclusion Works" conference in Austin, TX. From what I've read so far, there are many techniques that educators can use in the classroom for all students (regular, bilingual, special needs, etc.) I am so pleased to have been able to see Dr. Kluth show some of these techniques at the conference. I look forward to finishing her book and discovering all it has to offer. THANK YOU!

Out of all the books that I have been required to purchase for the School of Education, this is one of the few that I have no intentions of selling back. The activities in this book are amazingly applicable in any classroom, and explains it in a way that makes it easy for teachers to implement it. Both new teachers and veteran teachers could learn a thing or two from Joyful Learning.

Want to make learning meaningful, active, authentic and fun? This is the book for you! It promotes student collaboration and learning applications that work for a variety of topics and subjects. This is a required book for a university course I teach and students report highly favorable feedback. This will help an educator become the inspiration for meaningful, real and engaged student learning!

I purchased this book after attending a conference by Paula Kluth. She has so many active learning ideas that I incorporate in my special ed. classroom. Regular educators can also use this book at all grade levels. You just have to adjust accordingly. The ideas are wonderful because the students are moving around and not just sitting down. They are actively engaged in their learning.
