5.0 out of 5 stars "The Best Soundtrack I Have Ever Heard!", January 11, 2012

This review is from: Joyful Noise (Audio CD)
The "Joyful Noise" soundtrack surpassed even my expectations. Though the film's main theme is spiritual in nature (which of course is a wonderful thing), don't have the mentality the songs are sad and heart-breaking. If anything this CD is the complete opposite: the tracks are uplifting, upbeat and full of inspiration even the few songs that are ballads. Some of the tracks were written by none other than Dolly Parton herself and there are some amazing remakes of classic hits done here that take on a new persona of their own by the artists who perform them.

The "Joyful Noise" soundtrack was produced by Mervyn Warren who is most famous for producing the soundtracks to the films "The Preacher's Wife" and "Sister Act". In "Joyful Noise" he brings together the sounds of R and B, country, inspirational and even a bit of rock and roll to make an exceptional album.

My favorite track from this collection is the remake of the Michael Jackson classic "Man In The Mirror" done by Keke Palmer who sounds like Beyonce and Whitney Houston all rolled into one. What a marvelous voice. I also enjoyed the "Higher" medley performed by Dolly, Queen Latifah and the rest of the cast. The three tracks Dolly wrote, "He's Everything", "From Here To The Moon and Back" (that one will bring tears to your eyes and is very similar to her "I Will Always Love You". She also wrote it for her real-life husband Carl Dean) and "Not Enough" are solid songs and very memorable.

All the performances here are first-rate. Queen Latifah proves not only can she act, but boy what pipes she possesses and the younger singers are definitely going places in their musical careers. And Dolly is simply a pro and has never sounded better even at 66 years of age!

My only problem with the soundtrack is the fact that Dolly was not given the chance to do a solo number by herself. Even the other star of the movie, Queen Latifah, had that honor, but despite that issue the "Joyful Noise" soundtrack will please all music fans no matter what genre you like.

After its first week of release "Joyful Noise" finished at a very impresssive #4 at the box office making $13.8 million dollars which is exactly what Warner Brothers was aiming for.

The success of the movie has led to the success of the soundtrack which is (for the first week of release) at #1 for Soundtrack Album sales and #2 for Pop album sales on Amazon. After its first week of release Billboard has also announced very impressive numbers for the CD: #1 on both the Soundtrack and Gospel Charts, #2 on the Christian and Independent Charts, #11 on Digital Albums Chart, and most important #21 on the Pop charts making this one of Dolly Parton's highest debuts there.

A++.

5.0 out of 5 stars This soundtrack is filled with joyful music., January 14, 2012

This "Joyful Noise" soundtrack is truly filled with joyful music. The music makes the movie worth watching. This soundtrack proves that gospel music can be uplifting and soulful. Keke Palmer's cover of Man In The Mirror is powerful and moving. Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah duet on the "He's Everything". This song fills me with hope. These two songs are worth the price of the CD alone. Dolly Parton sings a beautiful love song entitled From "Here To The Moon and Back". Her voice really moves me. This soundtrack also contains groovy cuts like "Higher Medley" and "I'm Yours". These two tracks make feel great and get me moving. These song feature Keke Palmer and a singer named Angela Govey. Angela provides soulful vocals on these two cuts."Maybe I'm Amazed" features Keke Palmer and her co star Jeremy Jordan. This track is a smooth jam. I really like it. "In Love" is a song that contains gospel and R and B vocal stylings by a singer Kirk Franklin. This song pumps me up. Queen Latifah sings a lovely song entitled "Fix Me Jesus". This song features excellent piano playing. Latifah's vocals bring a tear to my eye. "That's The Way God Planned It" features a young singer named Ivan Kelley Jr. This kid hits all the right notes. He makes me believe that all things are possible with just a little faith. I love this soundtrack.

Joyful Noise: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
My fiance' and I saw this movie last night. We weren't even out of the theater before we had the soundtrack purchased on our smartphones! If you are a fan of musicals, gospel music, and just darn good singing then you will love this collection of songs from the movie. I became an instant fan of Keke Palmer. Yes - I know she has been around for a couple of years but I have never seen her and certainly never heard her sing. Well, now I have. What a voice!

Do yourself a favor. No - Two favors.....See the movie and buy this soundtrack.

5.0 out of 5 stars Uplifting!!!, January 17, 2012
This review is from: Joyful Noise (Audio CD)
At my first listen to this CD I would not have given this 5 stars, but once I gave it a second try it erased any doubt in my mind that this would be a CD I would listen to over and over. Not being a big fan of gospel music it did take me a couple of listens to get it. Overall this is a wonderful soundtrack and will sound even better once you have seen the movie. The 2 highlights on this are actually the 2 slower songs. "Fix Me Jesus", sung by Queen Latifah is done wonderful and "From Here To The Moon And Back" written and sung by Dolly Parton is Dolly at her best. This song is just about as close to perfect as you can get. Her voice doesn't sound anywhere close to her age of 65, and I can't think of this good of a pure love song any many years. The rest of the songs are more upbeat. "Not Enough" (also writtin by Dolly) is fantastic. You will keep playing this one over and over plus it's got a great message. The remakes of "Man In The Mirror" & "Maybe I'm Amazed" more than hold their own with the originals. "He's Everything" was not my favorite at first listen but once I saw how it was used in the movie it makes for the perfect song and now I never skip over when listening to the CD. For me those songs were the highlights but the rest of the CD does not dissapoint. Yes, it is gospel flavored, but never done in a judgemental way. No matter what your beliefs are you should be able to enjoy this wonderful soundtrack.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jeremy Jordan and Keke Palmer steal the show here!!, January 19, 2012
By
This review is from: Joyful Noise (Audio CD)
Everyone knows that Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah are talented. Queen Latifah is one of the most popular female rappers of all time (alot of people forget that she started out that way).

With these two giants of music being in one film together you would think that it would be solely "their" show.

That is simply not the case. Keke Palmer and Jeremy Jordan are who gives this film and the soundtrack it's heart.

The soundtrack starts off with the rollicking gospel number "Not Enough". Which was written by Dolly herself. It features Dolly and Queen sharing lead vocals.

Next we have Michael Jackson's classic, "Man In The Mirror" sung beautifully by Keke Palmer. It's at this point, where the soundtrack really starts to jam.

The next track Paul McCartney's classic "Maybe I'm Amazed" is my favorite track on the album. It is done as a duet between Jeremy Jordan and Keke Palmer. The best version of the song ever!!

Next we have "In Love" written and performed by Kirk Franklin. This is a little different from Kirk's other material. It has a nice 1960's James Brown esque vibe.

Next is the classic spiritual "Fix Me Jesus" sung wonderfully and with so much heart by Queen Latifah.

Dolly Parton then shines with her self penned country waltz titled "From Here To The Moon and Back". This song features Jeremy Jordan and Kris Kristofferson doing harmony. The most beautiful song on the soundtrack.

"I'm Yours" is a nice R&B gospel number sung by Keke Palmer. Almost sounds a little like Mary Mary. This girl has got singing chops. DeQuina Moore and Angela Grovey tear this one up with Keke. Awesome.

"Mighty High" is sung beautifully by southern gospel superstar Karen Peck. I've never heard her do a song bad. This woman can sing.

"That's the Way God Planned It" by Ivan Kelley Jr. is a nice cover of the Billy Preston classic. The "speaking in tongues" section is a little excessive though and very forced. My least favorite track on the album.

"Higher Medley" is my second favorite track. It mixes a little bit of Sly and the Family Stone, Usher, Chris Brown, and Stevie Wonder.

"He's Everything" is another great track written by Dolly Parton. Ain't nothing country about it, it's all gospel. It shows that Dolly Parton truly is the real Queen.

"Joyful Noise Suite" - is a collection of music written by composer Mervyn Warren for the film.

All in all an excellent soundtrack. Dolly shows up as always but the winner here is Keke Palmer and Jeremy Jordan
