in a day and age where musicians concentrate more on what they are saying rather than the music they make, the joykiller is a welcome sound to hear. too many bands today try to make their lyrics so complex because they simply suck at making music...joykiller can take lyrics that would usually make me cringe(see "i wanna drink over you" and "go bang")and make me sing them out loud...if you are looking for some complex lyrics about government and hidden meanings, show me the system and we got a god is as much as you will get in "making a stand"...all in all if you are a fan of smash era offspring and dookie era green day, then by all means you must own something by joykiller! if you are one of those lyric loving deep thought people get this anyways! the music is definatly more mind blowing than 99.99 percent of anything mainstream today..but if you are a lyric nazi, go get any TSOL cd. they are just like this except not so much girls and broken relationship lyrics...regardless this album will find its way to the top if you give it a chance

I expected this album to be just like all the other stuff on the Epitaph record label. I was surprised that The Joykiller was not your average whiny pop "punk" group (not that there is anything wrong with a whiny pop "punk" group...). Jack Grisham's voice is kinda funny, like he is being electrocuted or something. It is neat, and it reminds me of the Dead Kennedys' lead singer's voice. They also sound a little like No Means No, because sometimes instead of singing they are talking with the music. It is really cool, though. The lyrics are very thoughtful.
