I discovered Andy on youtube as many did and bought Art of Motion instantly! I recently saw him on tour where he was selling this CD/DVD before they were released and got me a signed copy. It has been great follow up material to his previous stuff. I think the only drawback might be that he has some accompaniment on a few of his songs (cello or drum rhythm) that does add to the overall song, but might take away a little from his solo guitar. What I loved about Art of Motion was listening closely to all the sound that Andy alone could produce from his guitar and adding in another instrument 'muddies' it up a little at times. It is still a good overall end result and shouldn't keep you from picking this one up.There is also a DVD included where he tells a little about his history and shows you around the guitar shop where he taught guitar lessons. He also plays some of his songs live (not youtube style... very professional). Lastly, he gives some instruction on how to tune and play a few of his songs. He still plays too fast for me as a beginner, but as I improve, I will come back and try to give some of these a shot. I like that he is just a regular guy with an amazing talent and he remains humble through it all. Keep up the awesome work, Andy!

I loved this Cd and I liked that fact that it came with a Dvd packaged as well. It was great to not only hear Andy play but see him as well. A very talented artist and a good purchase.

Six stars!I stumbled across this guy on YouTube quite by accident and was blown away. Incredible technique combined with beautiful melodies. This is the most interesting music I've heard in a long time. This guy is the Joe Satriani of acoustic guitar. If you play any stringed instrument, then you must buy this album. If you claim to love music of any kind, then you must get this album. If you don't fall in love with these songs then either you are a cyborg or you have no soul... Recommended. Go buy right now!

This is a great album from Andy McKee. There are many other fingerstyle guitarists out there but Andy's style just seems a little better to listen to than the other. Not taking anything away from the other big names but Andy's songs just seem to have catchier lines.I am sure you have seen his Youtube videos by now. He is just a cool guy that is very genuine. I can't wait for the next album.

While music is dominated by guitar players, finding an innovator is a much more difficult task. Of course the likes of the feedback king Jimi Hendrix or the jazz based fret tapping of Stanley Jordan expanded into the electric arena by Eddie Van Halen creates not just a musical experience but an audio adventure land. So how what happens when you extend that fret tapping by adding your guitar as a percussive instrument and sometimes in almost seamless unison? Better yet how about making this unique musical style not only technically brilliant but also warm and accessible? Look no further to the latest offering from Andy McKee.Of the ten tracks present on Joyland, eight of them are self composed and all of them with a clinical crystal clear self production. The two covers are the bouncy melodic Tears For Fears hit "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" in completely contrast with the more technically driven Michael Hedges cover "Layover". The remaining balance of the album is solely focused on McKee with the driving "Hunter's Moon" being one of the many standout tracks. If you are impressed with this delightful ear candy supplement it with a visit to YouTube and you will see but still not believe your eyes. But let's back track as the album opens with the rhythmic and hypnotic title track which also features McKee on the cello and glockenspiel. McKee even entertains us with the more folksy and compelling "Never Grow Old" featuring Shawn Pelton on drums. This would be a great song to accompany you on a drive on a winding country road laced with arching trees and a rainbow of autumn colored leaves. But McKee leaves the best for last with the melancholy reflective "For Now" that closes this compelling album. Joyland includes a bonus DVD that documents Andy McKee's early beginnings as a music instructor in a Kansas guitar shop phasing into the significant exposure he secured via the social media outlet YouTube. And while America has not completely caught on to this rising innovative but warm guitarist, it is only a matter of time before McKee will be a household name courtesy of his creative spirit that is grounded in a terrain of overflowing joy.
