NOTE: The review below was written several months after I purchased this soy milk maker, when it was running well. I was happy with it and it continued to work well for about a year and a half. Then it suddenly quit and as it did so, tripped my kitchen GFCI. I then opened it up to see what was wrong with it and now I cannot recommend that you purchase this machine. The power supply circuit has a transformer in it that produces around 16 VDC, about five volts higher than it should. It has a full-wave bridge rectifier circuit to convert the AC into DC, but there is NO VOLTAGE REGULATOR on the output voltage. The resulting high DC voltage fried the main processor chip, which got so hot that all the labeling on it melted off. I am astonished that any engineer would fail to regulate the output voltage of the DC power supply, when its output level is critical to the proper performance of the other components. This means that over time, this soy milk maker will fail due to excessive heat on the main control board. Too bad, because otherwise, I was very happy with this machine.

You may be able to use the Joyoung machine successfully by never making more than one batch of soy milk at a time, and allowing the machine to cool down completely before you make a second batch. It is excessive heat that caused the failure in mine, and I was running it two times in close succession, which was probably just too much for the badly-designed circuitry to tolerate.

The review below has a lot of info that can be applied to other soy milk makers, so despite my disappointment in this particular machine, you might get some useful information about making soy milk from the review.

Like the product and am enjoying the home-made soy milk everyday. Easy to use and also easy to clean as it claimed. I also made pecans and almond milk with it and they all turned out great. I mixed my soy milk with small amount of barley to make it smoother and flavored with vanilla extract, a pinch of sea salt and sugar.
Just note that the bonus soybean pack is quite small, but I did not mind it since soy beans are relatively inexpensive.
Made also tofu with it once and enjoyed the fresh taste.
Highly recommend to anyone who love to drink soy milk. Wish I knew about this product long ago.

Ever since I developed an intolerance for regular milk I needed to find an alternative. Buying Soy milk at 4 dollars a carton became expensive. Now for a cup of soybeans I have milk for the week. For two dollars I got milk for months. This is great. The milk comes out smooth and delicious. I tend to mix sugar or caramel or whatever my tastes are for the week just to change it up. Its delicious with my tea. A little patience in having to clean the item but it is fantastic. The seller shipped it fast and was in the exact condition advertised. I am very happy and pleased to have invested in this item.

Great Product, fast shipping speed and good condition! I waited like for a month to give a comment on this product, just to see whether there are some drawbacks I can criticize. But there's nothing I can say. This is a great product. Easy-to-use, easy-to-clean, and enough volume for up to 4 people. You can create your own recipe other than what's written in the manual.
The only suggestion to the manufacturer is that this product should also have the function of making fruits/vegetables juice.
Overall, I recommend this product to those who love soy milk. Even you don't drink soy milk, you can try this as a good rice milk, or mixed grain soup maker!

I can't say enough about this wonderful machine. I bought this machine, along with 30 pounds of LAURA soybeans and will never buy store-bought soymilk again. It is truly liberating when you can make it yourself for pennies, and I know exactly what's in it. It's easy to make and clean up is easy. I make hot chocolate when the soymilk is first made and still hot, and it's so delicious. I flavor the soymilk with agave nectar and that's it. I use to use sea salt and decided to skip the salt altogether. The wonderful thing is, you can tweak the recipe to suit everyone in the family. The creations are endless. I bought my sister a machine, and she puts coffee beans in with her soybeans and makes some sort of coffee concoction that rivals starbucks. Also, the Okara. You get Okara when you pour the hot soymilk through the strainer one time into the pitcher (both provided with machine). I use the Okara, along with some soymilk to make cornbread. You can use Okara instead of eggs in baking. I also made Okara burgers from a recipe I found on the internet. My family loved them! I don't even buy tofu anymore because I love the Okara so much. This machine is the best appliance I've ever owned!

I purchased the Joyoung soymilk maker about a month ago and love it! It makes excellent soymilk in less than 20 minutes. I let the soybeans soak throughout the day and make the milk in the evening, let it cool, add several drops of sweetener and a small amount of vanilla and it's comparable to the soymilk I had been buying. The machine's only noisy for several seconds when it grinds the beans, otherwise it's very quiet. I recommend cleaning all the parts while everything is still warm - cooled bean pulp really sticks! A nice scrub-cloth is provided.

The instructions are a little vague as to actually hooking up the machine - the head simply sits on top of the machine and doesn't hook up in any way. Some of the English in the booklet is confusing but funny. I expect the machine to pay for itself very quickly and would buy it again.
