"Paws Up to longtime fancier Kathryn Braund for her wonderful self-published book, "The Joyous Havanese." --
AKC GAZETTE, April 2005
About the Author
Kathryn is the author of eight dog books, including two dog training books. She wrote "The Complete Portuguese Water Dog" with Deyanne Farrell Miller. It was named the Best Dog Book of 1986 by the DWAA. Her second book on the breed, "The New Complete Portuguese Water Dog" (1997) is called the bible of the breed. "Rosa and the Prince" (2002), her historical novel, tells the true love story of the tragic Prince Rudolph of Habsburg and Kathryn's grandmother, Rosa. It is a highly sensuous, passionate, heart-wrenching tale of their ill-fated love affair. Set in 1885 in Vienna, Austria, readers say it is a never-to-be-forgotten love story.
Kathryn was motivated to write "The Joyous Havanese" (2005) because many novice breeders are unaware of the work involved in responsible breeding and unaware of the necessity to perform health checks on their dogs. "I wanted to present a picture of the essentials in breeding, the great necessity for socialization of puppies as well as behavior characteristics common to all breeds. I also wanted to present the joy and love that is presented in the very soul of this perfectly wonderful little dog. Lastly, I want people to know that homework before purchasing and caring for a dog is absolutely essential."
