Historian's delight,
By Kat Kansas "Kitty" (KS USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Juan Bautista De Anza: Basque Explorer In The New World, 1693-1740 (The Basque Series) (Paperback)
As a genealogist, I found this book to be a treasure...as a history buff, I found this book to be very informative and interesting...leaned a great deal. I am mystified that Juan Baustista de Anza is never given more credit than he deserved in the history books...I highly recommend this book, it is well written and very insightful into not only the man, but the times and locations as well.

Not the Person You Think,
By F J Fitzgibbon Jr. "FJF Jr." (Los Alamos, NM USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Juan Bautista De Anza: Basque Explorer In The New World, 1693-1740 (The Basque Series) (Paperback)
Pay attention. Read the subtitle carefully! The subject of this biography is not the Juan Bautista de Anza who established the first land route to San Francisco Bay in 1776 and was governor of the province of New Mexico from 1777 to 1787, but his father of the same name. This book is the first volume of what the author plans to be a three-volume series about Juan Bautista de Anza and his father. Other than a mention in the preface, little said of the son, who according to the preface, is to be the subject of volumes two and three. I am waiting for volumes two and three, and maybe only three.
