Juanga performs his best,

This review is from: Juan Gabriel: En el Palacio de Bellas Artes (DVD)
Recorded during the dates of May 9, 10, 11 and 12 of 1990 at El Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City. The whole show is so long that it was originally issued on 2 seperate VHS tapes, it is finally availible together on one disc. The total playtime is almost 3 hours.Tracklist: 1. Obertura: No Discutamos/Mi Fracaso/Adiós Amor, Te Vas The only problem I have with the dvd is that it's structured with many un-necessary medleys (like #14 & 16) where going to the song you want is difficult unless you have a time search on your dvd player. The dvd also includes a bio, discography and picture gallery.

Is Juan Gabriel!,
By "josemerino07" (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Juan Gabriel: En el Palacio de Bellas Artes (DVD)
How to define Juan Gabriel and his weight on Mexican music? Juan Gabriel is the sythesis of what is painful and yet joyful about Mexico, and this specific Concert is the pinacle of this, a piece condemned to be history.

"Juan Gabriel En el Palacio de Bellas Artes" from 1992--
Even if don't know a word of Spanish, I think you're going to be impressed and moved by this performer with a great strong voice, a commanding stage presence, a flamboyant, assertive style, lyrical ingenuity, and a comic thrust who is able to get the audience under his thrall. He has a strong fan base, and they turned out for this love-fest. They love his music and react by singing along with the lyrics, swaying from side to side (an undulating, lively crowd), waving white handkerchiefs, and by getting into the act. It's participatory showmanship by a true artist. He is accompanied by a large, very involved symphony orchestra that really move to the music. A boy's choral group, a boy's band, and a passel of mariachis appear along with Juan Gabriel. He can motivate an audience the way performers could do in the older days with ballads and sheer talent. Gabriel loves what he is doing. He dances, cavorts, and flirts with his audience. He is turned on by the audience, feeds off them, figuratively cradles his fans in his arms and sings love songs to them. His only failing is he doesn't know when to stop and goes on a little too long. A good time is had by all. I believe you'll enjoy this DVD.
