5.0 out of 5 stars Juanga performs his best, February 28, 2004

srf_82 (Seattle, WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Juan Gabriel: En el Palacio de Bellas Artes (DVD)
Recorded during the dates of May 9, 10, 11 and 12 of 1990 at El Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City. The whole show is so long that it was originally issued on 2 seperate VHS tapes, it is finally availible together on one disc. The total playtime is almost 3 hours.

Tracklist:

1. Obertura: No Discutamos/Mi Fracaso/Adiós Amor, Te Vas
2. Yo Te Perdono
3. Yo No Nací Para Amar
4. No Tengo Dinero/Me He Quedado Solo/No Se Ha Dado Cuenta/Buenos Días Señor Sol (Medley)
5. Amor del Alma
6. Ya Lo Sé Que Tú Te Vas
7. Se Me Olvidó Otra Vez
8. Me Nace del Corazón/La Muerte del Palomo/Me Nace del Corazón (Medley)
9. No Vale la Pena
10. Que Te Falta Mujer/Caray/No Les Vaya Suceder/Caray (Medley)
11. Inocente Pobre Amigo/Te Lo Pido Por Favor (Medley)
12. Amor Eterno
13. Hasta Que Te Conocí/La Negra Tomasa/Danzando Lambada/Caballo Viejo/Bamboleo/Hasta Que Te Conocí/Adoro/Te Dedico Esta Canción (Medley)
14. No Me Vuelvo a Enamorar/Quedate Conmigo Esta Noche/Tenías Que Ser Tan Cruel/De Mi Enamorate (Medley)
15. Mi Más Bello Error
16. Querida/Contigo Aprendí/Bonita/La Diferencia/Querida/Que Te Pasa/Toda la Vida/Muévanse Todos/Debo Hacerlo (Medley)
17. La Más Querida
18. Lo Pasado, Pasado
19. Viva México/Guadalajara (Medley)
20. Final (Adiós Amor, Te Vas)

The only problem I have with the dvd is that it's structured with many un-necessary medleys (like #14 & 16) where going to the song you want is difficult unless you have a time search on your dvd player.

The dvd also includes a bio, discography and picture gallery.

5.0 out of 5 stars Is Juan Gabriel!, February 24, 2004
This review is from: Juan Gabriel: En el Palacio de Bellas Artes (DVD)
How to define Juan Gabriel and his weight on Mexican music? Juan Gabriel is the sythesis of what is painful and yet joyful about Mexico, and this specific Concert is the pinacle of this, a piece condemned to be history.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Master Showman, August 15, 2009

"Juan Gabriel En el Palacio de Bellas Artes" from 1992--
Even if don't know a word of Spanish, I think you're going to be impressed and moved by this performer with a great strong voice, a commanding stage presence, a flamboyant, assertive style, lyrical ingenuity, and a comic thrust who is able to get the audience under his thrall. He has a strong fan base, and they turned out for this love-fest. They love his music and react by singing along with the lyrics, swaying from side to side (an undulating, lively crowd), waving white handkerchiefs, and by getting into the act. It's participatory showmanship by a true artist.
He is accompanied by a large, very involved symphony orchestra that really move to the music. A boy's choral group, a boy's band, and a passel of mariachis appear along with Juan Gabriel. He can motivate an audience the way performers could do in the older days with ballads and sheer talent.
Gabriel loves what he is doing. He dances, cavorts, and flirts with his audience. He is turned on by the audience, feeds off them, figuratively cradles his fans in his arms and sings love songs to them.
His only failing is he doesn't know when to stop and goes on a little too long. A good time is had by all. I believe you'll enjoy this DVD.

The product arrived just in time for Christmas, which was perfect since it was a Christmas present. The packaging was safe for the DVD and contained the correct address information. I had no problems at all with this purchase.

This dvd is a good quality item considering the tools available in 1989. Juan Gabriel is by far the best mexican showman and he proves it on this dvd. It brings a lot of my childhood memories back to life. Any Juan Gabriel fan should have this item.

4.0 out of 5 stars Juan Gabriel at a Great Venue, November 12, 2008

This review is from: Juan Gabriel: En el Palacio de Bellas Artes (DVD)
I have been a fan of Gabriel's melodic productions after living in Latin America for 11 years in the 80s and 90s. This is a good DVD and if you have ever been to the Palacio de Bellas Artes (Mexico City) you can appreciate how Gabriel holds his audience with big production, onstage appeal. When hundreds of fans get into a musicians performance it is hard to not ride along for the show. I am sure every female in the audience (especially the Latina ladies) knew every word to every song. This is a typically highly energetic performance by a master of melodic effect and enchanting lyrics. Gabriel, as I understand it, arranges his own stuff. It's good. I enjoy it. The Palacio venue is THE venue in Mexico. This DVD is a great way to transport yourself to the Palacio for two hours of very enjoyable music, a true "espectaculo," Spanish speaker or not.
