Outstanding - Great Guidebook
This an excellent Guidebook. I am using it to plan a trip to the Weminuche this year and it has been a great resource. Information included are summary of the hike, distances, approximate hiking times, difficulty, nearest town, maps, special considerations, finding the trailhead, the hike in detail, map and elevation profile. Useful but dry.
The book/map is definately informative but also dreadfully dry. It is difficult to follow as it is in book format which doesn't lend itself well to large maps. I ended-up ultimately buying another map to take with me and use on my trip. Look for the National Geographic map for The San Juan Mtn. region instead.

This an excellent Guidebook. I am using it to plan a trip to the Weminuche this year and it has been a great resource.
Information included are summary of the hike, distances, approximate hiking times, difficulty, nearest town, maps, special considerations, finding the trailhead, the hike in detail, map and elevation profile. One addition to this book that I really liked and I found very useful is the section titled "Trail Finder: Author's Favorites". You can quickly locate a hike based on "Hikes for High-Altitude Scenery", "Hikes for Wildlife", "Stenuous, Multiday Backpacks Hikes" and many other choices. |
