5.0 out of 5 stars Jubei-Chan is an all around great anime
Jubei-Chan is a story about a samurai master and his school who have political power. As time goes on, the master of the Yagyu Jubei school passes away from old age. He tells his closest companion who he will become reincarnated as and what to do. He reincarnates as an innocent 13 year old girl going to school. His companion (Who apparently is immortal somehow) has a...

You must call them to find out what happened and they are very snotty on the phone. I've bought tons from them via Amazon and directly but will never do so again. Be warned, they may cancel your order and not inform you! Very bad company and...

He tells his closest companion who he will become reincarnated as and what to do. He reincarnates as an innocent 13 year old girl going to school. His companion (Who apparently is immortal somehow) has a special eyepatch which she can put on that turns her into a samurai master. This may sound somewhat corny, but this is really a great anime. Some of it is not too serious and gets very comedic at times. I really haven't laughed that much until I saw this series. And some points have really serious fighting scenes with great animation.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious---With a Twist, January 18, 2001

Jiyu Nanohana is a young, regular high school girl with the reincarnated spirit of Yagyu Jubei, the legendary Japanese swordsman. When she puts on the "Lovely Eyepatch," she receives the incredible sword skills of Jubei.

The first episode of the 3rd DVD picks up at the cliffhanger conclusion of the 2nd DVD, with Jiyu unconscious and Shiro in the clutches of his evil twin brother. Delving more into the past of the Nanohanas, more is revealed about how Jiyu's mother died and how Jiyu and her father learned to rely on each other for support. The second and third episodes nearly completes the arc, having Jubei try to rescue Shiro and the lovely eyepatch. But, (as predicted) one loose end is left for the final DVD to resolve...

The story in Jubei has steadily picked up, with a story arc that is interesting to say the least. The hilarity continues, but periods of definite seriousness start appearing throughout the three episodes on this DVD. The fight scenes are still top-notch, although still sparse. All-in-all, the story is definitely appealing enough for me to go order the next one in the series.

The transfer was clean and clear, as expected from Bandai. Few rainbows show up and artifacting was not at all noticed. The animation, handled by MADHOUSE, was pretty damn good. Colors are vivid, the character designs are pretty interesting and the setting definitely has a Japanese feel to it. The sound is nothing to write home about, but it's not bad in that its pretty unnoticable and it simply adds to the feel of the scenes.

One final note: Not many extras were included on DVD, with only one little "Ninja Fashion with Jubei-Chan" extra. Perhaps I'm spoiled silly by DVDs like Escaflowne (with its Music Videos and "Club Escaflowne" segments) and Cowboy Bebop (with interviews with voice actors and the directors), but still, I usually expect more from Bandai.

Jubei-Chan The Ninja Girl - Vol. 3: Heart of Steel is recommended by this reviewer, especially if you're into crazy, hilarious anime.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Ever, July 21, 2001

Jubei-chan is one of the best animes i have ever seen. It is histerical and has some really good fight sceens. My friends and I still talk about it. Despite the serious cover the show is anything but, [except for the end but i won't tell you about that.] It also has some great music. Jubei-chan is a must see for any funny anime fan.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
WARNING = Hastings will cancel your order and not tell you. This leaves you hanging wondering what happened with your order. You must call them to find out what happened and they are very snotty on the phone. I've bought tons from them via Amazon and directly but will never do so again. Be warned, they may cancel your order and not inform you! Very bad company and horrible customer service. If you really want your item buy it elsewhere, save yourself the trouble. I now have to rush out and buy my items elsewhere just days from Christmas. A real pain in the backside. You've been warned.

3.0 out of 5 stars Anime Okay, October 25, 2000
A Kid's Review
Jubei-chan is an ok anime. It has its ups and downs,Jubei has barely a personality and the episodes are almost the same. The anime shows hope though. The 300 year old samurai and chief that has all his expressions on his t-shirt make you want to watch more.I'd say get it if you like anime and are new into it.
