4.0 out of 5 stars Yagyu Jubei lives on, October 9, 2013
This review is from: Jubei-Chan: The Ninja Girl (DVD)
Yagyu Jubei, and incredible ninja/swordsman died nearly 300 years ago, but he needed to pass on his skills to one worthy heir. His vassal has spent centuries searching, and has finally found the one. Enter Jiyu Nanohana, who goes by the nickname, Jubei; she ends up inheriting Yagyu Jubei's eye patch. Once worn, it transforms Jubei-chan into a mighty warrior with skills that have not been seen for centuries. Throughout the show, Jubei will have to face different opponents who always pop up randomly.

This series was recently rereleased from Bandai Entertainment's license and is currently under Media Blaster's label. There are no special features at all on this collection; the trailers are at the beginning of the discs if you do not skip past them.

This is one of Studio Madhouse's earlier releases and it does show. A lot of the character designs look like they belong in the 90's, and despite this anime being made in 1999, they could of done a little better. I can forgive the artwork, but the one thing I cannot forgive is the absolutely horrible English dub for this anime. Normally I don't try to complain about the dub because I understand all the hardships and differences that the English actors must endure, compared to the original Japanese actors, but it does not even sound like they tried a second take on any of the lines for this show. Its just static and unenthusiastic. Simply watch the Japanese unless you want to laugh at the English dub, which is what I ended up doing.

There is a sequel for this series, and despite what I said earlier, I would be interested in seeing the sequel at least once. If you are interested in an older, high school comedy action show, you may want to check this title out.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Good Samurai/Ninja Anime, November 15, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Jubei-Chan: The Ninja Girl (DVD)
Think a mixture of Naruto/Ninja Scrolls/ Inu Yasha and you pretty much have the basic concept of what to expect from this series. While it has some drama it keeps it tone downed as not to become too depressing and with a good mixture of action and comedy to keep most entertained. The sub and dubbed are done well for the most part though as with some dubbed cast there are one or two that could have been recast for the roles.

The series overall is a good comedy/action/samurai/ninja series that will entertain those who like those genres but if you're unsure I do suggest trying to see if you can find a few episodes online to finalize you choice.
