A good book on the Lost Tribes.,
By J.L. Populist (WI,USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Judah's Sceptre and Joseph's Birthright (Hardcover)
This is a good, early work with some helpful genealogical lists at the end of it.
Mr.Allen does an excellent job of explaining the joining the Zarah and Pharez lines of Judah with the marriage of Tea Tephi to Herremon(son of Gallum aka William the Conqueror). One issue from a prior review should be investigated with Scripture. If Israel was never lost or they were destroyed, why would the Messiah send his disciples to "the lost sheep of Israel"(Mt.10:6)and why would James be addressed to the "12 tribes in the dispersion"(James 1:1)? Old Testament prophecy has not been fulfilled!Read Rev. 4:6-8 and you will find listed there the 4 brigade standards of Israel. Some of the things that I found interesting in this book: There is an excelllent linking of Ireland(names and places)with Hebrew names. Herremon's family history has multiple men named Heber. The name "Milesian" as in "Milesian Kings" means soldier in Latin. I have read and heard of Ollam Fallah being the prophet Jeremiah. I would have liked to see some form of evidence backing up the suggestion that Jeremiah and Baruch the scribe were related to the princesses of Judah.Particularly Jeremiah as Grandfather of Tea Tephi. While there are many good elements to this book,I can't agree with the "spiritual Israel" concept.Call it "replacement theology"or "dispensationalism", it isn't supported by the Bible.Israel is not spiritual. It's a physical entity.None of the tribes have been permanently excluded or replaced from recieving the Messiah. While Gentiles can be grafted into the Commonwealth of Israel, the idea that the church replaces Judah or Israel is not true. This is a good book and worth reading, but there are three books that I recommend more on the subject. "Israel's Tribes Today" by Steven M. Collins. "The Story of Celto-Saxon Israel" by W.H.Bennett. "Symbols of our Celto-Saxon Heritage" by W.H.Bennett.These books are the best I have read on the subject of the lost tribes of Israel to date.

This book is the most valuable book I have besides my Bible. It will show you the scriptures like you never have seen them before. It was well written by an amazing Bible Scholar in 1900. Most books on this subject will refer to this book. All my family and friends are reading it now. Enjoy!

While this book was published in 1925 if memory serves me correctly, IMO it has not been surpassed for clarity of exposition. The reader will learn much to his or her advantage and growth in relation to HaShem or Jesus. I will say that there is some web sites that purport to say that the Stone of Scone is hidden now. However, I do think that Queen Elizabeth II holds the Davidic throne in trust for the return of the King of Zion, Y'Shua HaMessiach.

The destiny of Israel and the destiny of Judah,
By A Customer
This review is from: Judah's Sceptre and Joseph's Birthright (Hardcover)
The primary value of this book is to clearly show the distinctions between Israel and Judah and how their destinies differ; the continuation of the throne of David; Judah to bring forth the Messiah and Israel to become the mutitude without number in their own independent (many) nations. The only mistake the author made is the failure to see that Jesus took the throne of David continuing the line o Kings of David's descent. This is 1 of 5 books every minister of the gospel should read.

Valuable Prophecy Research,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Judah's Sceptre and Joseph's Birthright (Hardcover)
Anyone who's bent on devouring prophecy teaching will find in this book the "mother lode" of research, a dominant source used by the late great prophecy teacher H.W. Armstrong. The author, J. H. Allen, writing in the early 20th century, painstakingly constructs a logical and irrefutable theory detailing exactly HOW the Biblical prophecies have been, are being, and will continue to be fulfilled. Ignore, if you can, the Christian-slanted preachy parts (or enjoy them, if you find solace in the NT reconstruction of the OT) but in any case, persist to the end. The big payoff is learning the who, where and how of the Lost Ten Tribes headed by Joseph's Egyptian-born sons receive their (and possibly your) birthright. Judah's sceptre is commonly understood and accepted but is only half the story. Joseph's birthright takes some real in-depth digging into the past to understand. Adding to that research a relevant understanding of current events leads one to a purposeful watchfulness and optimistic anticipation of a glorious future.

Eye opening,

One of the most unknown truths, that people do not understand. Israel and Judah are too different parts of Israel. Jeremiah call them both houses of Israel. The decendants of Israel are to be as the sand of the sea. This fact shows that there is more to Israel than the people that are called Israel today. Read the book and see the truth. Israel is hidden until the revealed time. The Jews are only one house.

Pleasantly exhaustive!,
This review is from: Judah's Sceptre and Joseph's Birthright (Hardcover)
So many lightbulbs came on when I read this book even though I've been studying these things for years! An enjoyable read which I found myself thanking the author for repeatedly. I checked and rechecked the date of it's publishing because of the things of today it explains. I am really glad I came across it and would recommend it highly to anyone interested in religious or secular history.

Avoid at all cost; WWC of God propganda,
This review is from: Judah's Sceptre and Joseph's Birthright (Hardcover)
The beginning is a mis-reading of Genesis, along with some better interpretation. It, however, misses the point of Genesis 37-50 so badly, that even the few good insights are not worth the trouble. If you are looking for solid, biblical understanding that any lay person or Hebrew OT scholar will agree on, I couldn't recommend Gage's book, The Story of Joseph and Judah, any more highly. It is wonderful for understanding the tribal blessings and the way that Judah and Joseph's lives intertwine.
Allen's book was foundational for the now defunct Herbert Armstrong and his world wide church of God "sect." That church has reversed direction with their new leader, but there are many from that lost sect that love this book about tribes being lost and found again in Brittain... and the resulting blessings of God supposedly because of it. Geesh, you might as well buy into Don Brown's novel as well. But, those who favor a legalistic view of God will undoubtedly love the rantings by this man in the early 1900's...and keep it selling strongly. Stick with Warren Gage's Story of Joseph and Judah and you will be happy. In fact, you may even marvel that so much "structure" is in Genesis, and thankful that God provided so much clarity.

Only the beginning is readable.,
By "u_d" (Jerusalem, Israel) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Judah's Sceptre and Joseph's Birthright (Hardcover)
The book is split in three parts. While the fist two parts are a recall of Biblical history, the last part is based on extra Biblical sources. The first two parts are very good and will give anybody, who is not familiar with the biblical truth of the two houses of Israel a good introduction. With the end of the second part the trouble starts. I gave the book two stars, because the first two parts are very good and give a good understanding but the last part is a nice fantasy story based on the dreams of the Brish Empire that its monarchy are the descendants of the House of David, which is absolutely ridiculous.

What a Crock!,

This review is from: Judah's Sceptre and Joseph's Birthright (Hardcover)
The Tribes of Israel have not been found because they were never lost. This theory, and this author was "stolen" by Herbert W. Armstrong, the discredited cult founder of the Worldwide Church of God. Read 2 Chron 30:6; 34:9, Ezra 6:17 and James 1:1 and you will find that the nation of Israel was destroyed, but the tribes, the people were not lost. They did not migrate to NW Europe. No reputable historian accepts this fallicy. Allen and Armstrong (a high school drop out) were not scholars.
