Don't waste your money on this book. There are far better books than this. Good Judaica books focus on important judaica and try to help the reader identify origin, styles, markings, dates, common inscriptions, and so on. This book is only a slight upgrade from browsing ebay. Virtually all the judaica is totally unimportant and modern. Any pictures of older judaica are not explained in any detail, a few times incorrectly attributed, and no analysis is done, even as obvious as translating inscriptions.

Any experienced Judaica collector knows the biggest problem by far when collecting Judaica is the preponderance of fake judaica, new items pretending to be old. The fact that this book doesn't even acknowledge this shows the inexperience and lack of qualifications of the author.

I think the outwaters have done a wonderful service by providing a readable and beautiful book about a subject that has become a facinating subject to growing number of individuals. the photography starting with the cover shot is a wonderful invitation to the rest of a book that should and probably will be the gift of choice for many many people. it is an easy read for those people who would like learn a great deal about the subject in a short time.

This wonderful hard bound book is a great text for home and classroom. It's pictures and text tell the story of a culture and religion rich with history. Perfect for those wanting to learn more about Judaism.
