Book Description

June 2, 2002
“Years and years ago when I was still a child in the marble city of my mind, I sailed the sky in a silver ship with an old man and his goat.” Myths and legends, ageless rivalries, ghosts from the past and spirits awakened, these were the playthings of a child’s imagination in the magical city of Kilkenny, Ireland. In the 1940s, children huddled to glean from their elders tales of woe and whimsy, and breathless were they who listened, gleaning what they could and learning what they chose from mistakes made long ago. Judas in Kilkenny is the true story of one woman’s coming of age in the Marble City. A young Theresa Lennon must put aside her childhood dreams in order to strive for peace in her tumultuous home life, and fight for her own independence, while trying to hide the secrets of a family headed for destruction. In the midst of chaos came solace, in the form of an old man who would help her find the truth.

5.0 out of 5 stars Passion without pity: Move over for Theresa Lennon-Blunt, December 12, 2002
This review is from: Judas in Kilkenny (Paperback)
What a great book! I loved every single word because it is obvious that Theresa wrote this memoir with great affection and love -- it shows in every word and phrase. More importantly I learned something from this book -- that life can be cruel, but one can move past the ugly things that life can throw at you and forgive before it's too late.

The people of Kilkenny should be darn proud -- it is easy to see that the author has great affection for her home town even though times were hard for her during the depression. Good work, what a brilliant first book that every one can enjoy and may be benefit from.

Bravo!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Kilkenny Magic, November 1, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Judas in Kilkenny (Paperback)
I am avid reader of all things Irish and reading "Judas in Kilkenny" was an absolute treat. Although the author obviously had a tough time growing up in Kilkenny during the 1930s-1950s, she in no way lays it on thick -- it is balanced between the hardships and joys of growing up in Ireland. Plus, the prose excellent -- flows like a charm. a real page turner in my opinion -- and the narrative is brilliant. You feel like you are actually in Kilkenny -- beautifully descriptive.
Best gift I have received in a long while -- a pleasure to read.
