Another glorious chapter in the career of Judas Priest is covered here, and what a concert it is! Originally released as a home video, this concert was recorded in Memphis on December of 1982 during Priest's Screaming for Vengeance world tour. Watching such a spectacle makes younger people like the writer that we had been born earlier to be able to have experienced the `80s Metal revolution. Priest plays the usual song list here, but you'll also find songs that you don't normally see played live like "Bloodstone", "Sinner", "Desert Plains", "Diamonds and Rust"(played in full, not the weaker acoustic version), and "Devil's Child". This is simply a great classic concert, which showcases Priest at their peak. Now if only there was an Unleashed in the East concert somewhere out there....

This DVD captures Judas Priest at their best. My brother and I caught them live in Toronto Canada for their 1984 tour (still have the original concert stubs!)

A must have for any Judas Priest fan. Just ordered Electric Eye DVD from Amazon.com. My brother bought it brand new and called me to tell me it is awesome!

No hype. No big stage production. Just "IN YOUR FACE" Priest at their very best. The footage is very raw and it feels like the God's of Heavy Metal are in your living room.

Rob's voice is awesome. He also looks like he is having fun.

If you like huge stage productions, pyro, and fancy lighting,

you ain't gettin' it from this video. This DVD concentrates on

the music and the band delivers with a "VENGANCE."

This is my favorite concert video of all time!!!

You simply won't get a better performance by Priest recorded on video.

This is the real deal, Priest at their best. The guitar attack of Tipton and Downing is amazing, the sound is great, Halford is also singing like never and the set list is very good. The only downside is, of course, Dave Holland's drumming. Funny thing, that guy played greatly in Trapeze, but in Judas Priest his drumming was dumbed down to a laughable point. (probably, following orders from the produceer, Halford, Tipton, etc).

You can't get wrong with this one.

This is the show that was broadcast on MTV in the 80's. It was shot in Memphis, TN (I was there) and is a good document of Priest from that era. Well shot with multiple cameras and good sound. It's already been released in the Metalogy box set, but if you don't have that, it's worth buying now that it's available on it's own.

Judas Priest recorded at Mid South Coliseum, Memphis, TN, 12/12/82. This DVD was previously released as part of the Metalogy (Bonus Dvd) box set and originally released on VHS as "Judas Priest Live". This was also shown on MTV back in 1983, when MTV had soul! Drawbacks - the show appears to have been transferred from VHS onto DVD without any sort of digital re-mastering, this is evident with tracking lines being visible at the bottom of the screen a couple of times. Other than that, the picture is stellar and the audio is perfect. There is NO PROBLEM with Glenn's sound at all, his guitar playng is heard in all it's glory! Now onto the show!
The concert starts with the taped recording of "The Hellion" and then the band blasts into "Electric Eye". Rob is perched on the top of a lighting tower singing: "Up here in space. Looking down at you. My lasers trace, everything you do." Rob is decked out in his classic black leather and spikes attire, also adorned with sunglasses, faux 3rd Reich cap, whip and red bandana tied around his left leg (red bandana tied around leg. Wha?) Oh well, Rob pulls it off as only Rob can! Hey, I thought it was butch at the time! LOL! Rob has to be in the best physical shape of his life. He looks dare I say, almost buff! Marshall amps are stacked all around the stage. Blue colored lasers are encircling Glenn and K.K. while the fog machine works overtime blanketing the stage. All you Dave Holland (ex-Trapeze) bashers, Dave is fantastic here! I do not want to hear how monotonous he is. Unfailingly keeping the tempo/rhythm on every tune, he is spot on throughout! Ian Hill, what can I say? He is the spine for JP.

I found this at Wal-Mart for $9.49 a couple of weeks ago, so I snagged it. Now having been a Priest fan from WAY back let me first say that this concert is SUPER COOL! Huge walls of Marshall stacks, laser lighting effects, dual blazing guitars, Rob Halford's searing vocals (well, not always...we'll get to that soon), all adds up to a great reminiscence to early '80s British Heavy Metal Heaven.

Okay, okay, Rob's vocals did NOT start out top notch on this recording. On the first 3 songs in particular you can clearly hear him rasping in the lower and middle registers, but after that it's pure Halford joy all the way! Just listen to the breakdown in the middle of "Desert Plains", when he's singing (screaming) to the audience "Are you high? Ohhhhhhhhhhhh, we'll take you higher!" NO ONE can do it like Mr. Halford!

It was also cool to hear Ian Hill's bass up in the mix, getting a nice, gritty, overdriven tone from his amps, (where are they, I only see Marshall guitar cabs onstage?) Dave Holland's drumming proves not to be very impressive, but VERY solid nonetheless. The guitars for me were really cool. KK Downing played a stock Fender Strat, (single coil pickups), and a stock Gibson Flying V for the entire set. Nothing too fancy. The Strat seemed to give a very thin tone, but it seperated from Tipton's tone nicely though. Glenn Tipton played a stock Gibson SG, as well as a Fender Strat outfitted with humbuckers. Both Strats on the stage had the STOCK whammy bars on them. Downing was just brutal with his, but never seemed to go out of tune! It was very obvious that there was no overdubbing either. The few mistakes that were made are there in all their glory!

The sound is good. Well mixed, and quite dynamic, even for an early '80s live recording.
