Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Sexy bad boy Jude Jamison, a former prize-fighter and wealthy actor who has given up Hollywood for sleepy Stillbrook, Ohio, develops a mad crush on curvy, conservative gallery owner May Price in this appealing contemporary romance from bestseller Foster (Wild). Though May does her best to thwart Jude's bold advances, she winds up pleading for his help after her ne'er-do-well brother, $50,000 in debt, is beaten by loan shark goons. May and her brother have no choice but to borrow the money from Jude and hide out at his palatial Stillbrook estate. When Jude discovers that the terms of the debt involve a personal threat, he steps in to protect both May and himself. Jude and May are so graphically portrayed that it's impossible not to feel heat radiating off the pages, especially during their hard-earned love scenes, but their hostile back-and-forth makes their relationship, at times, forced and uncomfortable. However, neatly dovetailing plotlines and plenty of family drama more than compensate. (Feb.)

From Booklist

*Starred Review* Former wrestling champ turned movie star Jude Jamison has moved to Stillbrook, Ohio, to escape the pressure of fame and a scandal that haunts him. Tired of the artifice and cookie--cutter looks of Hollywood women, Jude finds Stillbrook's pleasingly plump art dealer, May Price, much to his liking. May finds it hard to believe that a handsome celebrity would be interested in her. But when her gambling, alcoholic brother, Tim, shows up beaten half to death with orders to kill Jude or die, May breeches the fragile wall between her and Jude to protect both him and her brother. The spunky heroine and honorable hero are only two of the characters that make Foster's latest so good. Delightful secondary characters, such as Denny, the wrestling trainer and Jude's right-hand man, and Ashley, the sassy but loyal best friend, enhance the story and add many humorous moments. Even the psycho killer is three-dimensional. With her trademark blend of danger, humor, and passion, Foster has written another entertaining romance. Shelley Mosley

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Way to Escape - Wonderfully Romantic and Fun Reading, February 4, 2006
I haven't enjoyed a Lori Foster tale so much since her book "Wild". In "Jude's Law" we get heaps of heart melting romance, villianous bad guys and even some comic relief. Throw that all together and readers get fantastic characters to read about, both main and suporting alike. The bright, eye-catching cover drew me in at first, but the story itself blew me away.

Jude Jamison is Hollywood's ultimate bad boy. Loved by few, he's mainly shunned by those he used to call friends. A tragic accident involving a young starlet turned his fame to infamy when he was arrested for her death. Acquited, drained by the sordid life of Hollywood, he seeks refuge in Stillbrook, Ohio, and he hopes to find the one thing that his old glitzy life never did - love. May Price is a sensible art gallery owner, trying to stay afloat when into her life walks the gorgeous, breath-taking Jude. Upon meeting her, Jude knows he wants her. Tird of the skinny, fluffy-headed women that used to clog his life, he's more than ready for May's generous curves and open honesty. Prepared to immediaely conquer the intriguing lady, he's stumped when he actually has to work for her affections. Every time he tries to get close, she blows him off or acts as if he's teasing. Soon Jude is pushed past the boiling point and he's ready to put all doubts of his interest in her to rest. Come hell or high water, he will make her his.

Upon Jude's introduction into the story, it was blatantly obvious that he was no ordinary, run-of-the-mill hero. Jude happens to be a trained fighter in addition to a certifiable Hollywood hunk. His talents come in handy when May's brother is beaten and then charged with taking out Jude. Jude and May both are soon in for more than they bargained for as they try to solve the mystery of who wants Jude killed. Thankfully, they still find plenty of time to explore their passionate relationship. Several supporting characters add humor and depth to the story and there are even a few twists I didn't see coming. Foster does an excellent job of drawing readers into "Jude's Law", eliciting our caring and feelings for the characters. I sincerely hope that we will be seeing more books for some of the supporting characters in this one (Checked the authors website and it turns out we will be seeing another story entitled "Murphey's Law" due out October '06 I believe). Five stars and more for Foster's latest masterpiece.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Complex Read Worth Picking Up!!!, January 21, 2006
Ms. Foster's latest "Jude's Law" is a wonderfully complex read that faithful fans have been waiting for. Despite the fact that the start of the read is light and humorous, the truth is this story tackles some very important issues while at the same time entertaining with a romance that defies description.

Jude Jamison is trying to get on with his life after his acquittal of murder and he's decided to move to Stillbrook, Ohio to get a fresh start. He's looking for something and isn't sure what it is-until he sets eyes on May Price. She is everything that's good and pure in life. She's honest, hard working, and sweet. The one thing she fails at is dressing. Her choice of wardrobe leaves a lot to be desired. She had curves where a woman should have curves and Jude wants to get his hands on those curves more than he wants his next breath. Too bad May's so stubborn.

May has lusted after Jude from the first. She thinks his flirtations and comments are just a way to pass time while staying in Stillbrook. But, this is a problem because she wants to believe he wants her. Since her life is not a bed of roses with a mother who'd rather stay pickled with drink, a father that likes to chase skirts, and a younger brother who refuses to accept responsibilities for his actions, Jude, offers her a fantasy she doesn't want to ignore. So when one thing leads to another-May finds herself spending time with Jude, getting to know him...and coming to terms with what she truly wants...Jude. But, will she be strong enough to take what she wants or will her happy ending get away from her?

This story will grab you from the beginning. Ms. Foster has created some wonderful secondary characters such as Ashley, and Denny that truly add to this story. May and Jude are a wonderful pairing and their romance is by turns hot and sweet and their conflict with family is truly believable and one that most can relate too. This funny, sweet, tender, hot read is just another perfect example of Ms. Foster's talented writing and one I highly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wickedly HOT, January 24, 2006
By Judy "book reader" (Cincinnati, ohio United States) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
Jude's Law by Lori Foster is an absolute gem. This book is outrageous funny, emotional and of course all out hot.

Jude Jamison has left the limelight of the SBC fighting world and Hollywood to live in quiet Stillbrook Ohio. He gets immense pleasure in visiting May Price at the art gallery she owns. May is so different from those ultra thin starlets, she has the curves of a real woman. Jude can't get her lush body out of his mind. Jude's light banter and teasing has not made much headway into getting May to see him as more then a customer. It's time to turn the heat up a few notches.

May Price loves owning her art gallery. It gives her the security and confidence that she never had while growing up. To say her family is dysfunctional is an understatement. May loves and accepts herself as she is, but she has a difficult time seeing herself as Jude says he sees her. Can this devastating attractive man really see her as a hot sexy woman?

When May's younger brother Tim gets himself in dangerous situation she turns to Jude for help. Once Jude starts to dig deeper into the problems Tim has gotten himself into, he realizes May is in danger as well. Plus after he meets her less then stellar parents, Jude's protective nature comes out in full force. Getting to the bottom of threats against May's family and keeping her safe might be easier then getting her to believe that he wants to have a future with her.

Lori Foster yet again delivers a first-rate story of love, family and commitment. Jude is not your usual hero, his livelihood is not your typical 9 to 5 job. He uses his brains as well as his brawn will equal success in both. When he turns up the heat it practically sets the pages on fire. May is a strong, intelligent and unique heroine, she doesn't bemoan that she isn't a size 2 she embraces her womanly curves. Watching May's reaction to Jude's seduction is priceless. This couple was a pleasure to see their relationship grow through out the book.
It's another Foster keeper.
