Gr 4-6--Clearly written, lively biographies of the title figures. Judge Roy Bean has the greater appeal--just because Bean got around a lot and was a colorful, many-sided character. Allusions to poker and the actress Lily Langtry deepen and enliven the narrative. Because of the Younger Brothers' association with Jesse James, as well as mentions of places and persons in historical Missouri, that book should have particular regional appeal. In both volumes, some dialogue is included; sources are noted. Black-and-white photographs and reproductions are clear and function with the texts, and footnotes are plentiful.
