Book Description

7 and up2 and up
Which would you do? judge Judy challenges you to be the judge!

It's the first day of school, and your teacher looks very tough.

You should:

  • Give him a hard time because you think he's going to give you a hard time.
  • Try to get out of his class.
  • Be extra well behaved; maybe he'll like you.
  • Give him a chance; maybe he's really nice.
  • Kids develop a sense of morality at an early age, but parents often need help teaching them how to make good decisions. Judge Judy's first book, Win or Lose by How You Choose!, wowed critics and topped three best-seller lists by presenting kids with questions about real-life dilemmas and asking them to select the right response from a list of choices. In You Can't Judge a Book by Its Cover, Family Court judge and popular TV show presenter Judge Judy tackles the moral choices kids encounter every day at school. By setting up recognizable scenarios and then challenging kids to judge which of four responses best fits the case, judge Judy creates a platform for adults and children to talk through the answers together.

    Amazon.com Review

Popular TV courtroom personality Judge Judy Sheindlin has a dare for kids. When faced with tough tests of character in (and out of) school, children are challenged to make the right choices. By using examples of problems kids face every day and providing four possible responses to each situation, Judge Judy helps readers build up their moral strength. For example, if your best friend's goofy-looking cousin is visiting and wants you to go skating after school, what should you do? (a) Tell your friend you wouldn't be caught dead with her. (b) Fake being sick to get out of it. (c) Go along with her; maybe she is really nice. (d) Buy her a mask. Parents and children are encouraged to discuss each answer, or even to make up their own, before deciding on a solution. But remember, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." As Judge Judy says, "Adults seem to have a little saying for everything... Don't bite off more than you can chew. You can't judge a book by its cover." In this fun and enlightening book, she helps kids apply these wise aphorisms in their everyday lives to make good decisions and get along with others.

Judge Judy Sheindlin is the outspoken author of several bestselling books, including Judge Judy Sheindlin's Win or Lose by How You Choose, which was also illustrated with Bob Tore's cartoonish line drawings. 5.0 out of 5 stars Moral, responsiblity, and respect..., December 19, 2006

Children need guidance because cannot protect and take care of themselves. I wish many would really devote and dedicate time to educate and discipline their children this way. Thank goodness, there are few sober people left in this insane world like the Judge. I am happy that with a publication like this many children can gain moral base from someone who got hers from rules of a Judeo-Christian family. Especially, if they cannot graps it from their own parents and family life as they should.
One the most worthy books that I purchased for my two children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, smart, funny!!!, April 5, 2007

My son (9) and I enjoy reading this book together, because the questions always contain one or more funny options, which really are instinct choices. Psychologically it is important that the child who reads all the options will see the "nasty" options as well, laugh about it, and feel good about himself for choosing the "right" one. We absolutely recommend it.
