This review is from: The Judgment of Deke Hunter: A Novel (Paperback)
I like George V. Higgins' writing, and this book is pretty much like his other efforts except its not great entertainment. I kept reading, waiting for something to happen, and it never did. The book is a sorta chronicle of a bored and sulky guy whose a cop but wanted to be a sports star. His wife nags him a lot, his girl friend nags him a lot, his boss nags him a lot, and he doesnt get along with the assistant district attorney he works with. Thats pretty much it. Quiet desperation.
All the characters talk too much, and most are philosophical when they talk. Reading it was more of a chore than a joy. |
