Any money spent purchasing this is a total waste. After obtaining it I was fortunate enough to find out more about Ms. Bari at several websites which I highly recommend to the readers of these reviews. <www.theava.com> is the site of Bari's former publisher and has a wealth of information about her environmental hustles. Judi Bari was an effective organizer working to save ecosystems, and jobs, in California. Not only was she outraged over the clear-cutting of Redwoods by Pacific Lumber and other corporations, but she was equally sympathetic to the timber industry workers who were being exploited as well. Not surprisingly, her courageous and effective activism brought her death threats, and a COINTELPRO style campaign of defamation Cointelpro: The FBI's Secret War on Political Freedom. Much of the media was complicit in the effort to discredit her, and was influenced by the work of PR firms such as Hill & Knowlton Toxic Sludge is Good For You: Lies, Damn Lies and the Public Relations Industry.
This CD is a compilation of segments of talks Bari gave at rallies and other forums, along with some of her protest music. It's an important record of a heroic struggle that was largely ignored, or caricatured, by the corporate media. After Bari and a fellow activist were nearly killed by a car bomb, the lawsuit she brought against the FBI created space for future environmentalists to work without the same level of intimidation. Sadly, Bari died of cancer a few years ago, but her estate won its case against the FBI. This CD is a good introduction to Judi Bari; while books like The Secret Wars of Judi Bari: A Car Bomb, the Fight for the Redwoods, and the End of Earth have been discredited by those who knew her. I would highly recommend the DVD on Bari's life, "The Forest for the Trees" (from Bullfrog films).
