5.0 out of 5 stars This man is a dynamo!, August 26, 1999

This review is from: Judique On The Floor (Audio CD)
Buddy MacMaster has more depth, power, tone and drive than any other Celtic fiddler alive, in my opinion. The Rolling Stones have nothing on him! There's no better strathspey player around. His King George medley will make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck. This man is a dynamo! This CD is a must-have for lovers of the Cape Breton style of "Scottish violin playing," as Buddy describes it. To me it's fiddling, superb fiddling, the best there is!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best There Is, September 25, 2001
This review is from: Judique On The Floor (Audio CD)
Buddy McMaster is the king of pure Cape breton fiddling, found in Nova Scotia, roots going back to Scotland. Typified by jagged "cuts" for rhythmic emphasis, guitar & piano accompaniment. Mostly hard rocking dance music, there's afew slower tunes here for variety (the transcedent Da Stockit Light).
But what relly makes this CD is his "King George Set" including King George the 4th and Old King George strathspeys.
Note: If you're not into fiddle music of any sort, the total CD may sound monotonous to you.

5.0 out of 5 stars There's nobody like Buddy MacMaster., June 20, 1999

This review is from: Judique On The Floor (Audio CD)
I grew up with Buddy MacMaster in Cape Breton Island. For fifty years, he's been playing the best of Cape Breton fiddle music, and he's still at it. If you like this kind of fiddling, you want this album. If you don't know anything about Cape Breton fiddling, you should get this album. If you don't like it, you'll find someone with better taste who will.

(I entered this review for my dad.)
