Amazon.com Review

"We are the keepers of an intuitive intelligence so powerful it can tell us how to heal," writes psychiatrist and practicing intuitive Judith Orloff, M.D. "We all possess within us an intuitive healing code that contains the blueprints for our health and happiness, and for the survival of everything that is good here on earth." Her aim is to teach you how to tap into and train your own intuitive powers and use them for your well-being. She divides the book into three parts: "The Body," "Emotions and Relationships," and "Sexual Wellness." She teaches five steps to intuitive healing, which she defines as "listening to your body's signals--your inner voice and heart, your spiritual connection--to find out how to become more physically, emotionally, and sexually whole." According to Orloff, these steps apply to every health challenge, as well as every emotional and sexual issue:
  • Notice your beliefs.
  • Be in your body.
  • Sense your body's subtle energy.
  • Ask for inner guidance.
  • Listen to your dreams.

Orloff returns to these steps in every chapter, offering more explanation, a different slant, practical exercises, and ways to apply each step to different areas of your life. For example, in the helpful "Sacred Healing Partnerships" chapter, she applies these steps to choosing the right health practitioner. Orloff is articulate and warm, inviting you to make her world your own with clear explanations, practical strategies, and numerous detailed, personal anecdotes. --Joan Price --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

From Publishers Weekly

While holistic medicine has recently gained wider acceptance and inspired a slew of books, rarely has it been examined so thoughtfully and engagingly. Orloff, a psychiatrist, "practicing intuitive" and author of the memoir Second Sight, approaches her medical practice with unusual insight into human nature. Defining healing much more broadly than the eradication of illness or temporary avoidance of death, Orloff optimistically sees the future of medicine as "a holistic art and science" in which "intuition, spirit and technology will be seamlessly integrated." Revealing more of her personal experiences than many professional authors, she offers a clear, detailed manual for tapping one's intuition, which she variously characterizes as "a potent form of inner wisdom," "a still, small voice inside" and "a truth-teller committed to our well-being." To assist readers in developing and maintaining their physical, emotional and sexual health, Orloff presents five steps: "Notice your beliefs, be in your body, sense your body's subtle energy, ask for guidance and listen to your dreams." Although she repeats this five-step process in every chapter, she manages to maintain a fresh, vital discussion throughout. With her frank treatment of such topics as death and sexuality, Orloff will no doubt win over many new fans. Agent, Richard Pine. 15-city author tour. (Mar.)

More About the Author

"Dr. Orloff voices the message that intuition works as a potent therapeutic force that can help us lead smarter, saner lives. She is a serene maverick." --USA Today

Transforming the face of psychiatry, Dr. Judith Orloff asserts that we are keepers of an innate intuitive intelligence so perceptive that it can tell us how to heal -- and prevent -- illness. Yet intuition and spirituality are the very aspects of our wisdom usually disenfranchised from traditional health care.

Dr. Orloff advocates "a democracy of healing," wherein every aspect of our being is granted a vote in the search for total health. It is our birthright, both as health-care givers and health-care recipients, to reclaim our intuition to build energy and well-being. In response to her work, The Los Angeles Times calls Dr. Orloff "a prominent energy-based healer."

Dr. Orloff is accomplishing for psychiatry what physicians like Dean Ornish and Mehmet Oz have done for mainstream medicine -- she is proving that the links between physical, emotional, and spiritual health can't be ignored. Dr. Orloff has spoken at medical schools, hospitals, the American Psychiatric Association, Fortune Magazine's Most Powerful Women Summit, and alternative and traditional health forums -- venues where she presents practical intuitive tools to doctors, patients, and everyday people.

As a board-certified psychiatrist and assistant professor of psychiatry at UCLA, Dr. Orloff exhibits great courage in drawing upon her own intuitive abilities, evident to her since childhood. Her struggles acknowledging and then finally embracing her gift of heightened intuition are chronicled in "Second Sight" (Warner Books). Her second book, "Dr. Judith Orloff's Guide to Intuitive Healing" (Three Rivers Press) shows how breakthroughs in healing our body, emotions, and sexuality are accomplished by listening to intuition. Her latest book "Positive Energy" (Harmony Books) completes a trilogy of books around awakening intuition and subtle energy. "Positive Energy," which has been translated into 23 languages, takes a probing look at the epidemic of exhaustion in America and how we can reverse it using specific strategies to build energy and combat draining people.

Dr. Orloff begins talks by creating a bond of warmth, trust and intimacy with participants, within which they can hear and explore her ideas. Her sincerity, humor, and joy bring everyone in the audience with her -- leaving everyone certain of their own intuitive abilities, as well as Dr. Orloff's contributions to a radically new kind of medicine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Insightful Guidance, April 4, 2000
By A Customer
This is an insightful resource book for those who are either beginners or well on the path to understanding how to use intuition in every area of their lives. Filled with exercises, questions to ponder, tips and case histories of her patients, this book is written in an easy conversational style. Dr. Judith Orloff's Guide to Intuitive Healing has made it okay for us to trust our "inner voice" again. We each have this inner guidance connected to our spirituality within us. Dr. Orloff shows us how to use this "voice" to fully connect with our love ones, understand our doctors and our healing and even how to avoid absorbing other people's negative energy. I have highly recommended this book to my friends!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Psychic Doctor's Five Steps to Improved Intuition, May 7, 2001
With warmth, humor, and poignant examples from her own life, Dr. Orloff presents a rational case for the value of intuition, by describing five easy steps to follow for paying attention to our beliefs, body, subtle energy, inner guidance and dreams. Many of us receive early warning signs of troubled relationships and problems with our health, yet find it difficult to recognize and heed the wisdom we have access to. If you've ever wondered how to differentiate between hearing true inner guidance and suffering from an over-active imagination, this book is for you! Orloff also provides invaluable tips for how to get clear intuitive "reads" in the most trying times and challenging situations.

One of the things that impressed me most about INTUITIVE HEALING is Orloff's courage to present the advantages of psychic intuition directly to the medical community, in a culture that historically has denigrated all things psychic. Orloff builds a crystal-clear case for the value of intuition, which often is the best (and sometimes the only) source of accurate and timely information in life-or-death situations. Orloff describes how we need not fear death, but can learn to access tremendous reserves of strength by welcoming the energy of death into our lives and learning to better understand death on an intuitive level.

INTUITIVE HEALING is priceless for anyone in need of medical care, and equally valuable to those who simply desire to develop intuitive abilities. I give this book my highest recommendation!

5.0 out of 5 stars Insightful, inspirational, instructional, life-enhancing., June 4, 2000
In Dr. Judith Orloff's Guide To Intuitive Healing: Five Steps To Physical, Emotional, And Sexual Wellness, Dr. Judith Orloff (Board-certified psychiatrist and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at UCLA) integrates intuition and classical forms of Western medicine. She explains that we are keepers of innate intuitive intelligence so powerful that it can prevent illness, relieve anxiety and depression, enhance sexuality, help us choose the appropriate doctor, and even accelerate the healing process. Dr. Orloff describes how to use these intuitive gifts everyday to clarify spiritual beliefs, choose relationships, find a fulfilling career, learn how to use remote viewing to "read" people, and to understand and effective use dreams. Dr. Orloff also maintains that sex is not simply a physical act, but it is an intuitive path as well. Through focusing on both the physical and the energetic aspects of self we can sharpen intuitions through receptivity to the erotic forces of life and nature, awakening to full-bodies, heart-based human sexuality. Dr. Judith Orloff's Guide To Intuitive Healing is highly rewarding, insightful, inspirational, instructional, thought-provoking, quality of life-enhancing reading.
