Book Description

Bedford Series in History & Culture February 1998
Judith Sargent Murray (1751-1820) was at the center of the post-Revolution discussion concerning the proper role of women in the new Republic. Her voice dominated American discussion of women's character and their future in both intimate and public life. Here, Sheila Skemp supports her biographical essay with 15 of Murray's letters, essays, and poems.

4.0 out of 5 stars Concise and easy to read, April 7, 2009
I bought the book for a report at school not really looking forward to having to read any of this material. I was surprised to find how well written and easy to read the text was, and the included documents and excerpts made my research easier as well. A single reading of this book gave my far more knowledge than I had anticipated.
