5.0 out of 5 stars Judy at Wolf Trap finally on dvd-5 Stars, March 26, 2003

This review is from: Judy Collins - Live at Wolf Trap (DVD)
An excellent transfer of this concert to dvd. Judy Collins is in fine voice and sings "Send in the clowns', "Where does the time go?', "Amazing grace", "Mountain girl', "We are not forgotten any more', songs by leonard cohen and others in the 90 minute concert taped at Wolf Trap. Great sound and picture.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Folk Song Singers Ever, March 8, 2005
This review is from: Judy Collins - Live at Wolf Trap (DVD)
A very nice voice plus perfect diction and perfect control of breath, and moreover, there is no affectation at all. The way she sang reminds us of Peter Seeger and to a lesser extent Joan Baez; and the way she holds onto the rhythm and spirits of the songs when varying the melodic lines reminds us of Paul Simon: they are not just any musicians but also composers and song writers! Yes, I like her Mountain Girl and also her Amazing Grace which brings out the meaning in whole so well.

Well, when seen from any of the seats in the hall you could hardly believe that the singer is already over 60. In any event, her make-up is much more natural than what we see on the sleeve. It is only when she sings the extraordinary high notes, sweet as they are, that one can say she is slightly past her prime. Nonetheless, she is hardly surpassable.

Judy must be over 60 by then, but she has everything so well-organised: not just her voice as seen from the two songs she sings without any accompaniment; but also her pianism as seen from the two songs she sings on the piano, or the perfect orchestration and well chosen musicians. Above all, the way she presents herself and sings is majestic!

5.0 out of 5 stars Judy Collins is the best, December 4, 2007
This review is from: Judy Collins - Live at Wolf Trap (DVD)
A little hard to listen to unless a diehard fan, Judy has a voice in later years that is a bit strident. However, that being said, she is the consumate entertainer. Old Blue Eyes, that's Judy Collins for this generation!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent performance, November 18, 2007

This review is from: Judy Collins - Live at Wolf Trap (DVD)
I have been an admirer of Ms. Collins' musical work for some time, and I bought this concert and the Pop Legends Live DVDs to have some performmance record of her work. This DVD is excellent, both in terms of production and performance. While one reviewer stated that it was evident during some numbers that Ms. Collins was "slightly" past her prime, I did not see or hear anything other than a flawless performance. This slight deterioration in her vocal powers is more evident on the Pop Legends Live DVD, but for someone firmly past 60, it was still an outstanding performance. The only gripe I have (and a minor one) is that whoever edited the show did not show it consecutively, but showed some parts out of sequence to the way the show actually went, which is evident by Ms. Collins' wardrobe. Still it is an excellent show, and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes to listen to people who can actually sing.
