5.0 out of 5 stars IN STEREO, December 8, 1999
This soundtrack is fantastic. All of the music from the film is here, and a great deal of unreleased material, too. Most of the soundtrack is presented in true stereo.....mastered from the original vocal and orchestral recordings made my MGM from March 21st - August 10th, 1942. The MGM Studio Orchestra was recorded using several microphones placed stategically throughout the scoring stage. Whereas the tracks were originally mixed to monaural for the film, Doug Schwartz at Audio Services in Los Angeles has restored and remixed the tracks to full stereo. The combination of the new sound and 2 alternate versions, 7 extended versions, and 9 outtakes of the music makes for an experience which surpasses the film in it's entertainment level. Perfect for a fan of Judy, Gene, MGM, and great musicals.

5.0 out of 5 stars Judy and Gene at their irriplacable best!!!, April 26, 1999
By A Customer
For Me And My Gal is my FAVORITE movie so I bought the soundtrack. I was blown away by how well it was done. I listen to it over and over again. Judy Garland and Gene Kelly do an outstanding job as always. If you're an old musical fan like me you should DEFINATELY get this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Far Surpassed My Expectations!, December 30, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The film "For Me and My Gal" surprised me by how good it was. My expectations were for a fun, shallow and pleasantly forgettable musical. The beginning didn't surprise me one bit, but then the story started taking unexpected turns and I was drawn into the characters' emotions --- even more so than their song and dance routines! Garland and Kelly were dynamite together, and their songs and dances enhanced an already wonderful story. By the time it ended, I had found a new favorite and watched it twice more the next couple of days.

The same could be said of the soundtrack; it too surpassed my expectations. Not only did this CD have many extended versions of the songs I loved from the movie (including a couple deleted verses from the cute "Oh, You Beautiful Doll" number), but it also included some great outtakes, much of the gorgeous film score and a lovely booklet with wonderful stories and descriptions of lost movie segments. As if that wasn't enough, many beautiful photos, both candid and studio, were included in the booklet to enhance the text.

My favorite outtake may be the one Martha Eggerth sang, called "The Spell of the Waltz." I love classically trained soprano voices, and thought it a shame that Eggerth only sang one song in the movie (although it's a beauty; "Do I Love You?") so I was delighted to hear her sing another. George Murphy suffered from several final cuts as well, and even Judy Garland's patriotic song "Three Cheers for the Yanks" has been unheard of...until now. Without question, this is the best movie soundtrack CD I have ever purchased. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves old fashioned musicals!
