Judy Martin has done it again - she is the queen of log cabin quilts. Her latest effort - Log Cabin Quilt Book - includes sixteen new log cabin variations. And, I do mean variations!

In one version, Judy pieced log cabins - not the blocks - the houses! And if that wasn't special enough, she includes a stair-stepped inner border of logs with an outer border of dark squares! Her border treatments are as inviting and creative as the original log cabin quilts themselves.

And, her sense of color is amazing! She has done each quilt in totally different fabric choices. A traditional log cabin block becomes an art quilt when she adds her personal spin.

Including celtic center blocks or stars - and choosing batiks - elevates these quilts. They are just screaming to be displayed on a wall - but with her dynamic borders, would do any bed proud.

This is Judy's favorite quilt block so she has the construction down to a science. Follow her techniques to create perfect log cabins - no "wonky" blocks allowed! "Wonky" is her word, not mine - but we all know exactly what it means - even if it hasn't made the dictionary yet!

The quilts in this book are so inspiring that it is difficult not to skip right to the photos. So do that first - and then, take the time to read every word. Judy is first and foremost a teacher so she not only tells you how to do each step, she tells you the "why". And, when it is all said and done, that is why her books are always best sellers - she knows what she's doing!

i'm always impressed by judy martin's creativity and invention. her color sense is amazing. in this book, she shares her latest variations of the log cabin design as well as a few previous examples.

most of the quilts include directions for two sizes--wall and queen. some are also given in twin size, a few have instructions for only one size, but at the back of the book there are charts to aid in changing log sizes and quilt sizes. there is a section on using log cabin blocks as borders. she includes symbols to indicate the difficulty of cutting, sewing and organinzing the patches for each quilt. each quilt also has two diagrams for color and piecing order. there are many wonderful diagrams showing different settings for the traditional block and for some of her original blocks. all the quilts are based on equal-sized logs--there are no off center blocks. with this traditional approach and her color sense the results are beautiful and inspiring.

martin's suggestions and advice come from long experience in quilting and are always interesting and helpful. in the section, 'a piece of my mind,' she addresses many current ideas about quilting that i think need to be discussed--such as the shortcuts that actually take more time than the traditional techniques. the points she raises are helpful for any piecing situation. along with the excellent advice and instructions are photos that are actually helpful.

an added feature is the beautiful quilting, which shows up very well in the photos. there are, unfortunately, no patterns for the quilting.

this is a book that should be in any quilter's library--a beginning quilter can achieve a first-rate quilt following the instructions, an experienced quilter will learn new ways to approach her work.

I didn't think she could top "Scraps," which is a great book, but Judy's new book is perhaps the best yet. Judy invites you to learn her techniques, then make the patterns your own, rather than being limited by the patterns. This book is the best example yet, where she revisits the simple and elegant log cabin, then gives even the most experienced quilter option after option to create a completely unique quilt. Woo-hoo, Judy!

I love the book. It was purchased because our guild was doing one of the patterns and I live a distance away and often need extra help. The book not only has explicit directions but presents many different log cabins and ways to put them together. It is easy enough for a beginner but has style. The "Stone Cottage" pattern could probably be taught to very young children for their first quilt. I highly recommend the book to anyone who is looking for a different way to make a log cabin.

This book is a great inspirational tool to create beautiful log cabin quilts. Being able to see layouts is a great help. The instructions are very helpful. Wonderful book!

I am new to quilting but an experienced sewer. I recently moved to a new house with a log cabin feel so that I would like to put wall quilts in every room. When I discovered so many variations on the theme that allow "log cabin" framing of other motifs, I was hooked...which isn't hard as when I'm hooked on something, I have to have every available item in that theme so I am not missing any of the "big picture". I have believed strongly that without the big picture, judgment is impaired. This book Judy Martin's Log Cabin Quilt Bookis most helpful to get me the variety I need for each room! I did purchase them together from Amazon and would do it again.

After seeing references to this book, I decided I had to buy it. Was very pleased with the patterns and instruction. It definately pays to buy through Amazon.

The log cabin has turned into my favorite block and what a book to have in my collection. There are so many new ideas I haven't seen. I have since purchased other "Judy Martin" books and just love them. The instructions are written for both templates and rotary cutting...

Any one that likes log cabin quilts, this is a wonderful book to buy. The quilts are beautiful. Any quilter would enjoy this book.

One of my friends had this book and I found it very inspiring and interesting so I bought it. And I am not disappointed! The book came quickly and in very good condition all the way to Sweden.
