Antony Santos always brings something new to every album. However, the changes to this album are in two categories: merengues and authors. For "Juego de Amor", his 12th studio album, Antony makes changes that signify if he still has the right stuff.
For starters, the album contains 10 songs, 5 bachata and 5 merengues. He wrote 5 songs and the other 5 were from other authors including Enrique Feliz, known for "Por tu Amor", by Joe Veras. The bachatas are still on the slow path as from the past few albums.
The merengues are still "Mayimbe-flavored" with now saxophones included (The previous album included a piano set for the merengues).
As for the tracks, all the bachatas except "Brindo por tu cumpleaños" (HORRIBLE) are good. All the merengues are good, including a Part 2 of Alegre Conga from the previous album.
Overall, getting other writers for the album seems a little weird in that Antony usually writes all his songs. The album will be a success b/c it's "Tu Mayimbe OtRa Vez"

One of his best albums to date. Very Bachata heavy like it should be!

Do not buy this CD or any other CD either made by Sony or labeled "Copy Protected". These CDs are known to be infected with DRM and contain programs that compromise the usability and security of your computer. Anti-virus programs are now classifying these DRM programs as rootkits and are cleaning them off of the infected computers.

I am with the crowd with regards to this new production by "el Mayimbe". It's different; it's refreshing and just down right a great album! I personally feel he has had some struggles situating himself over the past 3-4 albums among newer upcoming bachata artists who I would not say are better but it just seems like they have dominated the bachata scene over the period of time mentioned. Many questioned whether Antony Santos has what it takes to compete, to continue with a great career that he built for himself. Well, I think this album should clarify any doubts. I like all the bachatas (even "Brindo por tu cumpleanos"-referring to Victor Feliz's comment). I don't tend to like merengue inclusions in any bachata cd but one caught my attention "Yo sin ti". This album emphasizes Antony Santos' strength as a bachata artist because these ones are strong. They have great rhythms, lyrics and are very sentimental. However, they did remind me of the bachatas from his previous album 'El balazo". They have the same nuances. Anyway, if you like Antony Santos and you have followed his career, you may want to listen to this album. It's worth your time and money. I gave it four stars because of the merengues- too many and they are not necessary, otherwise, this is a great production.

"Juego de amor" is an excellent CD by El Mayimbe. It certainly departs from Mr. Santos typical subject matter with the inclusion of tracks such as "Tu pecho es mi habitad" (Enrique Feliz - please note that Mr. Feliz is a well-established artist and songwriter whose credits far precede "Por tu amor" - ex. "Hoy no trabajo" recorded by El Gran Combo - "La lección de Pedro K" - Tito Nieves - "Lo que son las apariencias" - Olga Tañon for starters). The inclusion of "El Brindis," a classic work from Argentina is, however, the most surprising selection on the LP. I do not share Victor's opinion that it is "horrible" but that it further marks a more spiritual stage in Anthony Santos career. El Mayimbe added saxes to his meren-bachatas, giving them an orchestral merengue flair, similar to El Prodigio and other such popular "Típicos." In summation, it is refreshing to see an artist develop, especially a performer of Mr. Santos' ilk who does not need to change to retain is well-established star-status.
Note: Where Victor states that Anthony always writes his own songs - This is untrue - in the past he has received credit (label copy errors) for hit songs penned by other writers i.e. "Pégame tu vicio" (Elvis Samuel) "Si yo fuera" (Charlie Mosquea) - to name a couple of many.
