5.0 out of 5 stars Best pop album you'll never hear on the radio
Don't let yourself get cheated out of a fantastic cd. You won't hear this one on Clear Channel, but you should. Good indie music like this is why I refuse to listen to rock radio anymore. I hear a lot of Foo Fighters and The Beatles weaved into this album along with a uniqueness that is hard to describe. I hope that we will be blessed with a second cd from these guys...

3.0 out of 5 stars That's really 3.5 stars... Pop rock with better vocals
Jughead is yet another of Ty Tabor's (King's X guitarist) side projects. While one might wonder if they start to sound alike they most certainly don't. 3.0 out of 5 stars That's really 3.5 stars... Pop rock with better vocals, August 13, 2002

Jughead is yet another of Ty Tabor's (King's X guitarist) side projects. While one might wonder if they start to sound alike they most certainly don't. The diversity of sound between his recent solo album (Safety), side project (Jelly Jam) and this album is amazing. This album shoots for a mainstream pop rock feel in the vein of such contemporary artists such as Foo Fighters, Bush, and Stone Temple Pilots all the while still encompassing Ty's 70's rock influence and Beatles (vocal) tendencies. The writing is rather straight forward (amazing considering the pedigree of musicians included) and is full of hooks. At times it is a bit too much like the contemporary radio rock (see: Halfway Home to Elvis, Bullet Train). Unlike Ty's other recent works he is not the lead vocalist (except on 'Promise' and 'Shame on the Butterflies'). Matt Bissonette's vocals work well here with Ty backing. Gregg's drumming seems to fit the song structure very well throughout. Derek's (known for his work with Dream Theater and Planet X) keyboard playing is almost all the way in the back, really just used to pepper the sound of the tunes (don't look for jazzy elements here). Over all we get some real nice pop rock tunes that really catch your ear with memorable hooks and vocals. "Paging Willie Mays" is a jaw dropper, gorgeous all the way around. The production on this CD is stellar (done by Ty). The instruments all sound clear and the vocals are fantastic. This may be a CD made by "serious musicians" but this is most definitely an accesible CD to any listener/fan of the aforementioned bands.
Highlights: 'Snow in Tahiti', 'Promise',Yesterday I Found Myself', 'Be Like You' and 'Paging Willie Mays'

This has got to be as another reviewer stated, Ty Tabor's best side collaboration yet. More Ty lead vocals would have been nice, but a group effort is a group effort and Matt, Gregg and Derek are excellent. In my opinion, this blows away everything new I've listened to in the last two years. BUY IT!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mustard Seeds + Ty Tabor, September 10, 2002

I've always been bummed there wasn't a 3rd Mustard Seeds album. This is even better - toss Ty Tabor in the mix and you've got a thoroughly enjoyable pop-rock album. High "sing along in the car" factor. Songs sound more like the 2nd Mustard Seeds album than any Kings X stuff. Ty is evident on the backing vocals, but only sings lead on one track. Derek on keys is mostly buried in the mix - in fact, I didn't even notice the keyboards until the end of track 4. He's mostly there to thicken it up with organ sounds.

This CD is a highly-repeatedly-listenable recording. By that, I mean it's fun, catchy, mostly fast-paced, and doesn't get old fast. Catchy, but not "gets-stuck-in-your-head-and-drives-you-insane" catchy (a good thing). It's got great vocals by M. Bissonette and T. Tabor, and some fast and furious guitar & rhythm parts. I couldn't hear much of a keyboard presence here, but when I did, it was tasteful and appropriate and added nice flavor to the song, too. This CD is great for the lover of positive, flat-out rock-n-roll. The mood is mostly FUN on this one. Buying this one's a no-brainer. You definitely won't regret it.

Bought this thinking it was just another Ty side project - had absoluetly no idea this CD was made with members of The Mustard Seeds, another of my totally fave bands. CD is a-m-a-z-i-n-g. Exactly what you'd think Mustard Seeds + Ty would sound like. I remember when Ty posted his review of the first Mustard Seeds album, saying it had affected him more strongly than any new CD release in years.....makes sense they got together. I do with there were more Ty lead vocals, but that's just a nit.

it is much better than any of King's X's studio efforts since joining Metal Blade. There are some stellar tracks here. For instance, both 'Flowers' and 'C'Mon' are very catchy pop-hard rock songs that might have seen much airplay if released 20 years ago. This is worth a look if you like both old KX and the Foo Fighters. I disagree with the other reviewer's comparison to Belew and The Bears; Car Caught Fire is much better than this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ty Forever!!!, September 13, 2002

It's great to have 4 phenomenal musicians get together and let egos and technical prowress take a backseat to great songs. This is by far Ty's best side project. It's so frustrating that drek like Avril Levigne, The Hives, Alicia Keyes, and the rest of what is considered "new and fresh" is making money hand over fist and Jughead will fade into the land of the unnoticed. This album RULES.

4.0 out of 5 stars Upbeat, fast, fun, sunny summer rock tunes!, July 31, 2010
This review is from: Jughead (Audio CD)
this seems to have only been a one off project so far, featuring the legend guitarist Ty Tabor of influential heavy rock band KING'S X. It has a much lighter, sunny feeling summer sound to the songs than KING'S X, and is kind of similar in ways to the sounds of bands like Foo Fighters, Stone temple pilots, Pearl Jam, Sunny Day Realestate, The Beatles. It is really quite different to Kings, with a much lighter poppy sound and songs, appart from one specific tune with a huge metal riff in it the majority of the album is ideal good time, feel good, uplifting pop rock tunes.

This album is "indie" rock only because of the label and the fact that it's relatively unknown. But the style is straight-up, catchy and groovy pop-rock, in the vein of the best top-down summer-driving music. Energetic without feeling emotionally intense. Even the more lyrically weighty songs don't come off as weighty. This is true even of "Promise" which is notable given the lyrics about divorce (perhaps Ty Tabor's divorce a few years before this album):

"Cast away, loose the knot
she's getting sun on the spot
where the ring used to be
before feelings were stronger than a promise"

For me, a few of the songs are less memorable than the rest, but when I listen to these songs I actually think they are very good as well. Buy and enjoy!
