5.0 out of 5 stars Very Cool!
I love this thing. Okay So I am 22 years old but I happen to be a cartoon freek so I bought one. I also bought the MP3 kit. The Mp3 sounds better then my Rio and it was easier to use. I see that there are music videos available as well.

I also downloaded jpegs into it. So I actully showed my girlfriend pictures that my mom sent me on my Juice Box. I guess...

1.0 out of 5 stars Buy a VideoNow instead...
While I do understand that this is a kid's toy and the quality of a device at this price is not going to be top notch, I most certainly expected more than this. It feels cheap, poorly made and the quality of the videos are terrible. While some may say, "Well, what do you expect from a kid's toy?" I have to say that I also own a VideoNow Color, and that device is heads...

When you think about it, I bought a video and MP3 player that also plays digital photos for under $100.00. My room mate has a I-pod that cost $300.00 and it can't even do 1/3 of what my Juice Box can do.

4.0 out of 5 stars This Nice Player Is A Nice Buy, November 23, 2004

The juicebox is an overall good media player for kids. I am a 12 year old boy, and I am going to get an MP3 player. When I was reasearching which ones to buy, I did consider looking at the Juicebox Portable Media Player. It was only a small consideration, but other than that, I had to look into it. Its a bit small and doesn't have an armband, but its high resolution was worth it. Now, its durability info is not known, so I would think it might break if you drop it (8 out of 10 chance you will). A 3 inch screen is a great feature. Although, you have cartriges you can use. This now takes it out of a good MP3 Player a bit. Most MP3 Players use memory by gigabytes or megabytes) The MP3 Player itself holds your files, not the cartriges. The Juicebox Portable Media Player has cartriges as memory. The Juicebox also has low battery life. 6 hours is not enough for a big Juicebox fan. You need to consider that while buying big time. I got to try out the Juicebox myself at Toysrus, and it wasn't too bad (to be true). But it still had losses and had those problems I have told you about. The headphones are not bad, but you might need to want to get new headphones (headphone jack fits for any headphones). Please consider other MP3 Players before buying the Juicebox Portable Media Player.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent little player, December 30, 2004
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars

Juicebox is a pretty cool gadget. I got it as a gift, and like it so far!

Pros:
-Durable
-Plays mp3s
-Can download pictures into it
-Plays cartoons and other shows
-Bigger screen than video now
-Shows come in color

Cons:
-MP3 kit does NOT come with it. You have to pay an extra $40 dollars for it
-Not the clearest picture in the world
-Annoying at first, as your hand tends to go right where the speaker is when holding it
-Picture isnt as good as you might see in stores that demo it
-Limited number of cartoons/shows to purchase at the moment

So any parents out there who want to buy this for a loved one, or any kids who want parents to get it for you, just keep in mind:

Indeed, this neat video player is good, and to some kids, will probably appeal to you greatly, but remember something. That if your buying it just to watch cartoons, just watch it on your televison instead. The only time you may need it is on long car trips.

If your buying it for music, then i would recommend it, as it is cheaper than an ipod ;-)

Sorry that my review isnt very 'filling' if you will, just think of this as an appetizer compared to the others :)

The screen on this is way better than video now, it is a lot bigger and the system itself is more portibale and durable than video now. You can store digital pictures from your computer on it and it is a mp3 player. Video now is has a smaller screen than the juice box, and video now is bigger and less portable than the juice box.

I don't know what the previous reviewer had against the juice box, it's great. My kid flipped when I gave it to him and I'm thinking of picking one up for myself. It would be great for watching during lunch breaks. All I can say is that we're enjoying it at my house!

While I do understand that this is a kid's toy and the quality of a device at this price is not going to be top notch, I most certainly expected more than this. It feels cheap, poorly made and the quality of the videos are terrible. While some may say, "Well, what do you expect from a kid's toy?" I have to say that I also own a VideoNow Color, and that device is heads and shoulders above this.

First off, features. Yes, it says that it can view JPG photos or playback MP3s. The thing is, you'll need to purchase a separate device to load your pics and songs onto a cartridge to do so. So, if that's what you or your child wants to do, be prepared to fork out even more money. It is primarily meant to be a video player, but I have my doubt about that as well.

Second, quality. The videos I watched on the JuiceBox were grainy, washed out and barely viewable. The sound was poor and the screen seemed smudged, no matter how many times I tried to clean it. Again, some may say "What do you expect? If you want good sound and picture, buy a DVD player." Not a good comparison, as a DVD player can cost up to 10x as much. No, better to compare it to a VideoNow Color--which blows it away in terms of clarity of sound and picture. Even the videos for the Gameboy Advance are better than this.

And finally construction. Talk about poorly made. It's as light as (if not lighter) than a deck of cards and the plastic feels cheap and thin. The screen's edges looked like it had air bubbles under it. I don't think it would last more than a day in the hands of a seven year old. I literally could crush this thing with one hand if I wanted to. And the cartridges the media comes on are even worse. They are as light as a matchbook and would probably snap in two if squeezed.

Overall, I am terribly disappointed with this product. Yes, it is smaller than the VideoNow and can playback MP3s or display photos, but only at an additional cost. For about the same price, the VideoNow is a far better portable video player for kids, with sturdier construction, more content and better video quality.

Well, the JuiceBox itself is awesome for a kid's toy, however it's not what I was expecting.
For 80 bucks or so, I'd at least expect something more than just the hardware. At least a free chip?
Nah.
I got this for Christmas in 2004, I think. I feel bad that my parents had to pay that much for something I rarely even use. :/
I wanted it mainly because it played mp3's and I couldn't find a cheap mp3 player (stupid me, I never really looked). I used it as an mp3 player for a while, but not so much because it sucks up battery life within... hmm, 4 hours, I believe.
I didn't buy any of the JuiceWare cartridges because none of them appealed to me (I'm a 15 year old girl and I do not watch Courage the Cowardly Dog and am not particularly interested in WWE or BMX).
That was one mistake Matell made when they were producing the JuiceBox, I think. There's not that many JuiceWare titles and a few shows aren't too popular.
The second mistake was trying to compete with VideoNow.
I feel like such an idiot for chosing the JuiceBox over the VideoNow. VideoNow has more titles AND you can make your own videos and put them on there. Stupid me again, thougt that you could do that with the JB too. Eh...
I had some fun with it though, which is why I gave it 3 stars. But the reason I had fun with it is probably not the same reasons most kids would have fun with it.
During the summer was when I used it the most. I downloaded episodes of diggnation (a tech podcast) and listened to them late at night when my sister was on the computer. During the summer I also searched for hacks for it to play video. Apparently there's quite a few people wanting to find out the same thing. I found the JuiceBox hacking forum and every now and then I browse through it.
Last I checked they have no hacks to get video on it yet, though. I'm starting to ramble about stuff you woudn't care about.
So yeah, main points:
*JuiceBox is an OKAY toy
*There are not many JuiceWare titles
*The only good hack is that it can be an ebook reader, as someone said previously.

We made a big mistake choosing these over the video now for our kids. They wanted the juice box primarily because of the commercials. Most of the cartridges were sold out so I did not realize till later how poor the available media is. Like my son would really enjoy watching Trading Spaces over and over! Give me a break! It is basically worthless without decent cartridge choices.

Ok First of all everybody is whining because they have to pay an extra $40 for the MP3 starter kit well guess what the juice box costs $59.95 and the MP3 starter kit costs $40.00 when you add all that up it costs $99.95 well guess what an I-pod costs $200 and it can only play MP3's so people stop complaining you are getting a great deal so dont mess with the juice box

Don't believe the negative things people may say about this toy. I bought one and it's great! The screen is big enough to see fine details clearly, the brightness and contrast can be adjusted to your liking. The sound quality isn't the very best but with headphones it's much better than I expected. There are plenty of media chips to pick from and it's totally portable. This is a proper toy and you won't be sorry you bought one.
