5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Beginners Guide
This book is an excellent start for those who are looking to improve their health by juicing. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking to find information about the basics about juicing. I find myself using this book as a reference guide at all times.

Last year at x-mas my wife and decided that since we just had a baby and funds were low, that we would buy each other one gift that we picked out around $20.00.
I picked a beard trimmer and my wife picked out the Juice Ladys book.So I thought I would be nice and buy her two Juice Ladys books.
Well the books came and I looked through them, and found to my surprise that the same recipes were printed throughout both books.
A lot of the recipes can be used for the same things. So instead of printing the recipe then putting what it can be used for the recipes are reprinted over and over.
So in retrospect I suggest buying one book instead of two or three with different titles, because they have the same recipes.
I hope this has been of some help for those looking to buy this or other Juice Lady books.

3.0 out of 5 stars Healing Fruit and Vegetable Juices for Specific Disorders, April 27, 2009
"The Juice Lady's Guide to Juicing for Health" is designed for anyone suffering from a specific disorder. This book is perfect for anyone suffering from Alzheimer's, allergies, anxiety, cancer, colds, depression, eczema, fibromyalgia, high blood pressure, indigestion, insomnia, migraines, arthritis, stress or ulcers and many more...

Each chapter begins with a brief introduction to the disease or disorder discussed. Diet, Herb, Juice and Nutrient recommendations are then given. For instance in the chapter on Alzheimer's disease it is recommended that you do a live cleanse. The Juice recommendations include:

Tomato Florentine - tomatoes, spinach, basil and lemon
Popeye's Power - apple, spinach, parsley, carrots, celery and beet
Wheatgrass Light - apple, wheatgrass, mint and lemon
Memory Mender - tomato, lettuce, cauliflower and lemon
Sweet Dreams Nightcap - lettuce, parsley, carrots and celery
Antiaging Cocktail

Most of the recipes are repeated throughout the book under each disorder. I didn't count them but it seems like there are only 20-30 recipes in this book. Still some are worth trying and the Antiaging Cocktail was delicious. It is made with grapes, raspberries, lemon and ginger. The only issue I had with the recipe was the quantity of juice it produces. It was only about ½ a cup of juice. None of the recipes have any information on how many servings each will produce. From what I can tell most of the recipes produce one serving.

At the end of the book there is information on juice fasting and cleansing. However, the information on fasting is especially brief. If you want to go on a juice fast I'd recommend you buy Juice Fasting and Detoxification: Use the Healing Power of Fresh Juice to Feel Young and Look Great : The Fastest Way to Restore Your Health.

5.0 out of 5 stars MMMM! Health, wellness, energy and great taste!, June 11, 2000
What more could we want? This perky lady has stuffed another of her popular books with all the great nutritional ideas, easy-to-make recipes and interesting uses for juice anyone could want! This is the ultimate reference book - I prefer it to all her other books, although I have them all. She's the spokeslady on QVC - you know, the chirpy one who seems so smart. Well, read the book and you know she's not only smart, but she knows how to make healthy stuff taste GREAT! Good Work, Ms. Calbom! Thanks SO much for your work!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book for addressing specific health issues with whole foods!, January 10, 2010
This review is from: The Juice Lady's Guide To Juicing for Health: Unleashing the Healing Power of Whole Fruits and Vegetables Revised Edition (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the second book I have purchased written by Cherie Calbom. This book is very focused in addressing specific ailments, conditions, and diseases succinctly. Cherie not only addresses each topic from the standpoint of a brief/simplified pathophysiology, she also provides comprehensive diet recommendations including which whole foods will help, and also which nutritional supplements, herbs, and juice therapies apply. She also provides specific Juice recipes and discusses appropriate exercises to consider. She paints a wholistic picture to address complex issues.

As a heatlhcare practitioner, I find her approach very sound. I have applied some of the principles to my personal ailments after researching her recommendations with other sources, and continue to have very good results.

I remember an earlier edition written by this author and I wanted to get the newest, revised edition. This is a great book if you are getting into juicing. I suggest to buy the Vitamix to juice/mix/blend.

I'm new to juicing so this was the perfect book to start with. It gives you enough information on the benefits of juicing without getting too technical. She rates equipment type from, not so good to best (no manufacturer names) to help you choose the right equipment. Recipes are tasty, using items most of us already have in the fridge and readily available in any grocery store.

Great book for first time juicers.

We really love this book. My husband has lots of health problems and he was told to use plenty of vegetable juices. We did not have any experience with this and this book gave us all the info we needed to get started. Would recommend to anyone who wants to make their own juices.

4.0 out of 5 stars Juice for health, September 30, 2011
This review is from: The Juice Lady's Guide To Juicing for Health: Unleashing the Healing Power of Whole Fruits and Vegetables Revised Edition (Mass Market Paperback)
There is no end of lore about the power of drinking the juice of vegetables and fruits. This book contains a wealth of recipes that are organized by ailment and which juice is supposed to aid which condition. Naturally, no book of recipes is a substitute for seeing your physician, but adding veggie juices can help you get vitamins, enzymes, micronutrients (the je ne sais quoi pas of nutrition) and they are refreshing and filling as a snack. I find I get a good burst of energy from drinking the juices in this book.

This book is organized by ailment, and the juices are recipes in the back. Some ailments overlap in what juices the author recommends. So you may be making the same one for you and for your family, but for different conditions.

I sometimes down a mix of carrot-celery-apple-ginger-beet-kale juice to my regime before working out. I find the mix is almost as much a "wake up" as a cup of coffee. Sometimes I add some grapefruit and delete the beet. Sometimes I add some parsley; the author warns that parsley, however, in LARGE quantities is actually toxic. I did not know that. Good info!

A friend, who is mending his health from a very severe condition that requires that he live and eat as carefully as possible, is using juices as well to assist in his recovery. He's seen his bloodwork improve; whether it's just from getting back to healthy eating or adding the juice, I do not know as it's not a controlled experiment. But he's enjoying the juices and he's mindful of what he's eating; more vegetables and fruits, less fatty food and sugar.

I will say, vegetable juice, made fresh, is a wonderful snack or even a light meal and kids who WILL not eat vegetables can often be coaxed to drink a juice. On the other hand, I had lunch today and the restaurant owner's little three year old son joined me at table for a few minutes. "What's your favorite food?" I asked him. "Broccoli!" was his answer. Because Mom makes it really taste good, and it's what he's eaten since he could swallow solid food. There's a lesson in there, somewhere.
