One of the best country records ever made. Period.,
By Invisiboy2001 "invisiboy2001" (Chicago, IL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Juice (Audio CD)
In 1981, Juice Newton exploded onto the Top 40 pop charts with three Top Ten hits from this million-selling album. "Angel Of the Morning" was the first to hit #1, followed with the #2 hit "Queen Of Hearts"...and then came possibly the most memorable of all Newton's singles, her tender reading of Otha Young's "The Sweetest Thing," which also reached #1. The "Juice" CD is proof that Shania Twain and Faith Hill were, by no means, the first female country singers to repeatedly top the pop charts. This CD holds up to any current Hill or Twain release, even 20+ years after its initial release...partially due to a wonderful remastering job by Steve Hoffman. Also, Newton's voice was probably at its all-time best when she recorded this collection, with just the right amount of power and vulnerability, and the songs she chose are simple, direct, and wonderful. Her covers of "All I Have To Do Is Dream" and "Country Comfort" are every bit as good as the originals, plus her self-penned "River Of Love" is an astonishing track, proving that Newton is as good a songwriter as she is a vocalist. This CD has just gone out of print, for some reason, so snatch it up while you can. It's a classic country CD at a great price! And it is a collection you will enjoy for the rest of your life.

Far too long a wait to go on CD,

This CD is one of my favorite albums of all time and also made me a life long fan of Juice Newton. For all the people who go on about the "new country and how Shania Twain et al, have successfully melded pop and country, this is the woman who actually did it first some 20 years ago. Capitol records took far to long too put this on CD! So if anyone is listening it would be great to have "Quiet Lies" and "Dirty Looks" on CD too!

"Juice" is the best of its kind!!!,

If you're a big fan of the Eagles, you'll love this CD! Finally available on CD eighteen years after its release, "Juice" stands as a monument as the album that laid the groundwork for such artists as Mary Chapin Carpenter and Shania Twain. Juice Newton successfully blends rock, folk, pop and country into a lovable package, one layered as a diary of the young white country girl in America. She hits all the topics: first love, loss of virginity, the importance of family, making peace with the past, and heartache. Every song is cleverly placed on the CD to evoke mood and emotion. The real gem of the collection is "River Of Love," a meditation on loneliness written by Newton. Even if you're not a big Juice Newton fan, I urge you to make this incredible, influential album a part of your collection.

Here is where crossover country-pop began...,

Juice Newton's breakthrough album is finally available on CD- and with good reason. From start to finish she is in fine voice. Whether she is delicately interpreting the simple country chords of "River of Love" or propelling the pop-rock ballad "Angel of the Morning" into your conciousness, Juice knows the notes to sing. And while most of the songs are classic country cover tunes, she adds just enough "juice" (sorry!) to make them her own. Including "The Sweetest Thing" and "Queen of Hearts," this is a must-have CD for anyone who currently enjoys the likes of Shania, Deanna or Mindy.

The Queen Of My Heart ~ The Sweetest Voice Of The '80's,
This review is from: Juice (Audio CD)
When 'Juice' was released in '81 things forever changed for country music. Juice Newton was the first successful crossover from the country genre to find a massive pop audience and became the prototype for other female performers who would follow in the years to come. She was beautiful (still is for that matter), personable and talented, possessing a voice so sweet and yet sooo powerful. Truly a phenom of the '80's.
This album/CD contains -10 tracks- of Juice at her very best singing songs that are now considered classics. She has been a consistent artist through the years and has produced numerous wonderful CD's, but in my opinion 'Juice' is her quintessencial accomplishment. A masterpiece in both genres!

I was lucky to find this on vinyl and I am really impressed with this album. Coming from a person that doesn't listen to much country I think this is a classic and would urge anyone who does not have it to get it you will not be disappointed at all.

I used to listen to this album when I was a little kid and even to this day I listen to it. I am not a country fan, but Juice is an enjoyable album for all tastes in music. Juice Newton is completely ignored in todays music, but this album is a classic and is not to be missed.

A contemporary pop-country classic,
By Bradley Olson (Bemidji, MN United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Juice (Audio CD)
This is the album that broke Juice right to the top after quite a few years of recording acclaimed albums with Silver Spur for RCA and became a platinum certified album in the process due to her cover of the Merilee Rush pop hit "Angel of The Morning," "Shot Full of Love," "Ride 'Em Cowboy" and her cover of a rockabilly song originally recorded by Dave Edmunds entitled "Queen of Hearts" being the major hits in the top 40. Also included are credible covers of Elton John's "Country Comfort" and the Everly Brothers hit "All I Have To Do Is Dream" but a true gem is "River of Love" which is a nice ballad which was also released as the B Side to the Queen of Hearts 45 which my sister and I grew up listening to as children. A lot of this music still holds up today and DCC Compact Classics's Steve Hoffman once again did a great job remastering this album.
