4.0 out of 5 stars Come Get Yo' Juice
Back in the day, soundtracks used to be bumpin' like mad, but now they just seem to be perfunctory and obvious.

The selection of artists may seem like old timers' day in the 'hood, but don't let that fool you--most of these jams are still smokin' even over 11 years after the fact.

This album works great with the Naughty and the EPMD and Big Daddy Kane, but do we really need all that R&B?

The EPMD, Big Daddy Kane, Naughty By Nature, Too $hort, and Aaron Hall cuts are the cream of the album, but the whole thing's a keeper. For a similarly excellent album, check out the New Jack City soundtrack.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Be Afraid to Buy This!!!, July 21, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Juice: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
This soundtrack is one of the greatest soundtracks of the 90's. The movie rocks! and the soundtrack fitted perfectly for the mood and tempo of the movie. The artists did some of their best work for this soundtrack. I especially like Naughty By Nature, Eric B. & Rakim, and Aaron Halls' joints. Get this because you can't get the original version of Aaron Hall's "Don't Be Afraid" anywhere else except on this soundtrack and trust me I heard the other versions and in no way do they compare to the SLAMMIN' Juice soundtrack version. PEACE!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars "Sip the Juice, I Got Enough to Go Around", July 15, 2006

This review is from: Juice: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
As soon as the first song starts to play, you already know this soundtrack is a hit. With rap artists like Naughty by Nature, Big Daddy Kane, Eric B. & Rakim, Too Short, Salt N Peppa, EPMD, and Cypress Hill, and with New Jack Swing artists like Teddy Riley and Aaron Hall, who can go wrong with this soundtrack? There's not really one bad song that you can name on here. Every artist comes correct. It's not too often that a soundtrack this good will be released.

The song I like most on here is "Juice (Know the Ledge)" by legends Eric B. & Rakim. It has that classic, old-school style that would satisfy any Hip-Hop head. I love the beat and of course Rakim's lyrics are great. Big Daddy Kane's "Nuff Respect" is another classic track on here, showing off old-school perfection. "So You Want To Be A Gangster" by Too Short had him taking time off from his pimp-filled rhymes to show that being a thug isn't all it's cracked up to be. Salt N Peppa tell you a man's true intentions with "He's Gamin' On Ya". "Uptown Anthem" is the perfect opening track for this compilation. Who can go wrong with "Shoot Em Up" by then-rookies Cypress Hill, or "It's Goin Down" by EPMD. The Juvenile Committee outline the plot of the movie with the enjoyable "Flipside".

Teddy Riley and Aaron Hall, both members of Guy, respectively, deliver two on-point cuts. Riley and Tammy Lucas look for reassurance on "Is It Good To You", which boasts an uptempo beat and has that classic New Jack sound. Hall's "Don't Be Afraid" is very catchy, with another nice, uptempo, New Jack sound that never sounds too dated. "Does Your Man Know About Me" by Raheim starts off with a rap, and then goes into some smooth singing. The "People Get Ready" remix by the Brand New Heavies ends the soundtrack off on a good note. The only real song the compilation can do without is "What Could Be Better B**ch" by Son of Bazerk.

With the exception of the one song, this is a perfect soundtrack from start to finish. Almost every song is a hit. With legendary artist after legendary artist, this soundtrack is worth your money, where ever you can find it. Hip-Hop & R&B just doesn't sound like this anymore. I would recommend you to buy the movie, and then buy the soundtrack at where ever you can find it. It's a perfect combination.

5.0 out of 5 stars You Can't Listen Just Once..., March 17, 2010
This review is from: Juice: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Every time I look at the CD cover I have to laugh when I see Omar Epps in the background with a mean look on his face. I'm used to seeing him in the tv show House, MD. Great actor nonetheless.

The CD itself is excellent start to finish. Artists like Salt N' Pepa, Aaron Hall, Big Daddy Kane, and of course Naughty By Nature's big hit "Uptown Anthem" make this soundtrack a must have. In the early 90's, I used to have a case of tapes and in it were De La Soul, the Juice soundtrack, Naughty By Nature, Boss, House of Pain, and the Pharcyde, among others. Obviously being younger, I had to have the edited versions but all of these artists were still worth having. I used to listen to Juice at least 2-3 times a week. I think I bought it at Bradless department store! There isn't one bad song on it. It's a great mixture of Soul and Rap. My favorite songs are "Uptown Anthem", "Is It Good To You", "So You Want To Be A Gangster", "Don't Be Afraid", and "Flipside"...and I just listed almost half of the songs on the soundtrack! There also is an edited version of the soundtrack available as well though I of course prefer the uncensored edition. You can tell the difference just by looking at the cover. On the edited version, the word "Juice" is in green lettering. On the uncensored edition, the word "Juice" is in red.

I give it 5 stars and definitely recommend it for this price.

just juicy. My best cut, I have to say is Juice! I just feel like booty shaken every time I hear it. After this album, hip hop shifted for me and the dance aspect changed from dancing to just moving side-to-side. This is definitely a time when hip hop was about the beat and lyrics.
