5.0 out of 5 stars Juiceman knows his juice.
This is the ultimate book on juicing. This is exactly what I wanted. Straight up juice recipes! No blender recipes (Well there are two at the end of the book for shakes but its minute after you read all the juice recipes). No add yogurt or soy milk and herbs. Nothing. Only add fruits and vegetables, just what I bought a juicer for juices! Jay delivers. His recipes are...

1.0 out of 5 stars Their idea of "good condition" vastly varies from mine
The book was completely discolored and it smelled. I felt like I should wear gloves before touching it, ugh! As to the contents, Juiceman is an extremist. Well-meaning folks trying to improve their eating habits are left feeling that if they don't drink 10 gal of arugula juice daily, they're bound for an early demise. This guy discourages anybody who wants to juice...

5.0 out of 5 stars Juiceman knows his juice., May 5, 2003
This review is from: Juiceman's Power of Juicing (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the ultimate book on juicing. This is exactly what I wanted. Straight up juice recipes! No blender recipes (Well there are two at the end of the book for shakes but its minute after you read all the juice recipes). No add yogurt or soy milk and herbs. Nothing. Only add fruits and vegetables, just what I bought a juicer for juices! Jay delivers. His recipes are precise, being which he tells you how many carrots, how many apples, and tells the reader what the possible prevention tips of the particular juice are. My favorite is the juice for the sinus. And it does help. Also the energy and feeling you get from juicing is amazing. A pot of coffee could not get you going this good.
Now dont get me wrong there are good books on juicing out there but as stated above they want you to add other health ingredients (herbs and spices, soy milk etc...).Thats not the reason I wanted to juice.I wanted the benefits of juice and juice alone not something I can buy as a pill from the GNC and skip all the juicing. Buy this book if all you want are juice recipes. This is what it's all about.Straight up juicing!

5.0 out of 5 stars A life changing book for me, January 22, 2003
By
Todd Ebert (Long Beach California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Juiceman's Power of Juicing (Mass Market Paperback)
This book along with Dr. Norman Walker's "Fresh Vegetabels and Fruit Juice" helped me begin my quest and desire to mostly eat and drink raw fruits and vegetables. Ten years ago as a first-year graduate student at UC Santa Barbara I found myself with an acne problem that had plagued me for the last 5 years, despite ingesting numerous antibiotics. Moreover, my eyes were beginning to tire easily. Then one day I stumbled upon this book by Dr. Walker which from the onset made complete sense to me. Around the same time I saw an infomercial advertising the Juiceman Jr. which I bought the next week (and it hasn't failed me since!), along with the "Power of Juicing" book and began a regimen of fresh juice three times a day, using many of the recipes and suggestions from both books. Some amazing things began to progess over the next year:!
i) my acne not only completely disappeared, but I found myself having a very youthful, vibrant look. I looked better than I had ever in the past.
ii) I lost 15 pounds in one year and became a star on the softball field.
iii) I have not touched my reading glasses in the past 9 years.

In the words of Jack Lalane (who is older and more fit than 99.99% of all other Americans) "If man made it, I don't eat it".

One note on juicers: low-rpm juicers which press the juice now offer a nice alternative to the Juiceman or any other of the centrifugal juicers. They seem easier to clean and produce a higher yield of vitamins and less oxidation. I recommend Samson 6 in 1 juicer which has a 5 year warranty on the auger (like a drill bit which is used to press the juice) and a 10 year warranty on the motor.

The revolution does not begin in the streets, but rather with a tall class of carrot and spinach!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Essence of Life....In Your Glass., May 3, 2000
This review is from: Juiceman's Power of Juicing (Mass Market Paperback)
I can't even begin to describe how wonderful this book is! While a few people have been quick to judge this book based on Jay Kordich's "lack" of any formal nutritional training don't let them fool you! Do you have to be a doctor to know a thing or two about the human body? You can go to a book store (or search here at Amazon!) and find enough books to make you smarter than any doctor alive! And even more signifigant is the "alternative medicine" movement that is booming thanks to "herbalists" and "specialists" who don't have Ph. D's. That said, this book is filled not only with fantastic recipies, but the heartwarming story of Jay's struggle to bring juicing into the mainstream. One writer even went so far as to say "he was cured of a disease he suspiciously neglects to mention"..well if this person read the book (including the back cover!) They would have found out that he survived a serious case of bladder cancer. Haven't we all heard of the stories where people have overcome crippling diseases where even doctors said there was no hope? Jay has, and juicing helped him get there....do your homework, LEARN ABOUT NUTRITION...and trust this book. I've been juicing steadily for about 3 years now and I'm in the best shape of my life, I've lost 20lbs and KEPT it off, I haven't had any major colds or illnesses for as long as I can remember and his knowledge of the human body and the effects of nutrients is top notch stuff. Medical science will never be able to explain all the properties available in plant matter. The properties of life are the most powerful essences on earth, and they are there for the taking...buy this book and put them into your body, you'll never be able to do anything better for yourself. Invest in you, the rewards are priceless.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better Late Than Never!, December 21, 2000
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
After 40 yrs of dieting (& gaining 200 lbs! in the process) this book has given me hope that nutrition is a major key to optimum health and weight. Jay helps us understand how most of our nutrients come from fresh, living plants not cooked (dead) food. It's not a big mystery now why I gained so much weight while dieting - my body was starving for nutrition among other things. Jay explains in detail why cooked food has very little nutritional value and how our bodies get so much more "bang for our buck" out of fresh fruits and vegetables. Great nutritional information as well as tasty juice and pulp recipes. Very informative - reviews most fruits and vegetables, their nutritional values and health promoting properties. Well-written, easy to understand, and packed with enthusiasm and encouragement. Keep up the great work Jay!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good read, solid info.. incorporate juices!, September 21, 2000
By
This review is from: Juiceman's Power of Juicing (Mass Market Paperback)
Jay Kordich, better known as "The Juiceman" put together a fine book here. The information about the benefits of being a vegetarian is bar-none, as solid as it gets. There are many great recipes for different juices. I love the section about what each different fruit and vegetable does inside the body. Wonderful information. Drinking but one glass of juice yields as many phytonutrients as most American's get in a few months from food alone. Gary Null, my idol, fully backs up the Juiceman's beliefs. I'll take advice from a 80 year old with such vigor. Enough vigor to do 100 pushups!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource for Introduction to Juicing, November 27, 1999
This review is from: Juiceman's Power of Juicing (Mass Market Paperback)
This man has been involved in juicing since the 1940's! He knows what he is talking about from personal, hands on experience. This is a "must read" to learn about juicing quickly and easily. I keep it handy and use it daily to look up recipes and amounts/serving, or for facts I keep forgetting about a fruit or vegetable!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Mouth-watering Book, July 6, 2000
This review is from: Juiceman's Power of Juicing (Mass Market Paperback)
This book made me want to juice so much I just went out and purchased a juicer. It tells the reader all about the health benefits of juicing, the different kinds of nutrients in many fruits and vegetables, and why juicing is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle. So many diseases can be prevented if people would just juice more and made an effort to have a diet rich in foods from the earth. If you want to learn about juicing and crave fresh fruit and vegetable juices, buy Jay Kordich's book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly concise and helpful! I was amazed!, October 28, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Juiceman's Power of Juicing (Mass Market Paperback)
The book is essentially a book of recipes for various juices. It is easy to understand and even easier to actually make each of the different juices. The book also contains a section devoted to dissecting the health benefits of the various fruits and vegetables. I was a little wary of this portion of the book since Mr. Kordich has no medical or nutritionist background and because he claims that carrot-apple juice saved his life from some serious illness that he suspiciously neglects to mention. Unfortunately, this omission put me on my guard as I read through this portion of the book. Regardless, if you are looking for easy recipes for fairly good tasting juices and not a health bible, this book is the way to go.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK!, June 6, 2005
I am new to juicing, and have found this book to be very informative, as well as very user-friendly. The author outlines the many benefits of juicing, as well as the best methods of juicing for the most benefit. The recipes are very easy to follow. Also, with each recipe, he writes what it is best for (i.e., healthy skin, energy-lift, etc.). He also has a section describing the benefits of specific fruits and vegetables. I think it is a very easy-read and a very well-organized book. A reference book I plan to use forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Juiceing Reference, October 6, 2002
By
Chuck R. (Washington, DC United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Juiceman's Power of Juicing (Mass Market Paperback)
I bought this book to use with my juicer. The references on the nutrients and benifits of individual fruits and vegetables is fantastic. When I had the flu I used parsley and garlic (the book references these as beneficial to the imune system) mixed with other non green vegetables (garlic and parsley are very strong) and I woke up the next day like I never had the flu with no medecine side effects. I also juiced watermellon with the rind as a thirst quencher after workouts - gatorade cannot match the hydrating effects of this one.
Granted Juicing can be a bit of work but even the benifits of one 8-10 oz. glass a day can be felt.
The book has many recepies, Jay's story, and much needed advice such as vegitable juice oxidizing to toxic levels in 24 hours. That's why you must consume your juice within a few hours, and V8 must be heated and pasturized nutrilizing most of the juice benifits.
Juicing can replace many vitamines and added enzymes people take and help your general health in so many ways. This book is well worth the price.
